ECHO
A Monthly Resource for Teaching the Faith 8.22
“We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace.”
Shaped by the Source and Summit
Jeannette Housecamp, a Catechetical Leader from St. Matthew's in Livonia, recently shared this in her family faith formation update. We loved her perspective on why she is a catechist. WHAT IS YOUR WHY?
"As a catechist of the sacraments, I'm both humbled and privileged to teach others about the gift of the Eucharist. Preparing children for First Holy Communion is one of my absolute favorite things to do. Why? The Children. They are pure souls that are enthusiastic and open to the reality of what it is they receive. They believe. Simple, true faith. You know the saying, "Ah, to have the faith of a child," it's true, as we age, we often become cynical and unbelieving. Other things take precedence over spending time with Jesus in the sacraments. Please...really take the time to ponder this. If Jesus is "the way, the truth, and the life," then what is keeping us from him? What is keeping YOU from him? "

Family Connection
Unfortunately, in today's world, tragic violence has become a common part of our weekly lives, and as catechists, we should work to help young people and their families make sense of the world, and process what they have seen and heard, of course, always at an age-appropriate level. Here are some resources to help you connect with families in times of tragedy.

Get to Know Your Students Through Intercessory Prayer!
We often use "Get to Know You" activities to learn more about those we catechize. We can learn a lot by hearing about their "wishes" for the world and helping them write those wishes into prayerful intercessions! https://catechistsjourney.loyolapress.com/2020/01/helping-young-people-write-intercessions/
A Prayer for Class Preparation
