METHAMPHETAMINE ABUSE
In Adolescence
Effect on perceptions by Peers:
- Pressure by peers to do drugs.
- Teens don't see the danger in drug use.
- It is easy to get because it's easy to make.
- Teens are clever and will do anything to get what they want.
Effect on perceptions by Family:
- Family can influence teens into doing drugs.
- Family members can also influence a teen into getting off of drugs. (Interventions)
Addiction
Addiction in not completly cureable.
Symptoms caused from withdrawl from the drug are very painful.
Side Effects
Sustained use can cause permenant memory loss and other side effects, such as liver, kidney, and lung damage.
Overdose can result in severe heart failure.
The LAW
Methamphetamine is illegal in all 50 states, no exeptions.
Signs of Abuse
- Inability to sleep
• Increased sensitivity to noise
• Nervous physical activity, like scratching
• Irritability, dizziness, or confusion
• Extreme anorexia
• Tremors or even convulsions
• Increased heart rate, blood pressure, and risk of stroke
• Presence of inhaling paraphernalia, such as razor blades, mirrors, and straws
• Presence of injecting paraphernalia, such as syringes, heated spoons, or surgical tubing
