Mary's Mount Primary School
Term 1, Week 1 - 4 February 2022
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Dear Parents and Carers
In about October last year, I started listening to podcasts featuring Ben Crowe. Ben is a motivational mindset coach who has worked with many elite athletes (including Ash Barty). He has a philosophy that we are all athletes and all humans are searching for two things, happiness, and confidence. For us to be able to achieve this we need to embrace our own story, our imperfections and to love ourselves unconditionally. These are BIG concepts for adults to embrace. Funnily enough, a child is probably more open to embracing their story because their life experiences are not as clouded as an adult. During one of my podcast listening walks, Ben was talking about everyone needing a courage mantra. A courage mantra is a phrase that will help you through tough times. It might be a tricky conversation, a confronting day at work, or an illness that you are battling. In our everyday lives, we all need to hold onto something to help us through.
My courage mantra is, ride the wave.
After this walk, I decided that my staff would listen to this podcast, and they were all as engaged as I was after listening. We have made a collective decision that all the children at Mary’s Mount Primary School are developing their own courage mantras this year. Please ask your child in the coming weeks what their mantra is. Maybe you might like to develop one for yourself. Our school catch cry this year is also from Ben Crowe.
Be the best part of someone else’s day.
What a lovely sentiment. Imagine if we attended to every conversation, every task, every interaction with this mindset, we would be a pretty joy-filled and confident tribe!
Welcome to the 2022 school year. It will be complex and uncertain, but please know we are wrapping our loving arms around your children and providing them with educational opportunities in a safe and nurturing learning environment. I will be keeping our school community informed and my door is always open to anyone who has questions or worries.
Parent Information Session
Considering the current climate, the Parent Information evening has been cancelled. The information will be sent to families in a digital format. You will be receiving a pack including a Parent Handbook, information from your classroom teacher, and information from the Leadership team. The teaching staff and Leadership team will be available to answer any questions you may have once you have received the packs via email on Thursday 17 February.
Mazenod Tutoring
The boys from Mazenod will be commencing tutoring on Tuesday 22 February. The sessions will be in the library and will commence at 7.30 am. Children able to attend are from years 2-6. The boys from Mazenod delivering the tutoring sessions will have vaccination checks completed by Mazenod.
Opening School Mass – Tuesday 8 February, 9am - Sacred Space
We will welcome 2022 with a whole school mass on Tuesday. The Mass will be held in the Outdoor Sacred Space and all community members are invited to attend. At the conclusion of mass, a welcome morning tea will be held in the Sacred Space area.

ABSENTEES - IMPORTANT - CHANGE OF PROCESS
It is a compliance requirement that all student absences, late arrivals and early departures be recorded in writing. This means, if a student is late to school or needs to leave early, they need to be signed in at the front office by a guardian or adult.
If a student is absent for the day, we require written evidence of their absence.
This year we will be changing the absentee process slightly so as to simplify the process.
Effective immediately, all absentees are to be emailed to absentees@mmps.wa.edu.au by 9am of that day or submitted online via our website -
** Please do not email your class teacher **
If you telephone the school office, we will still ask you to send an email so we have written evidence.
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this. If you have any queries, please contact the school office.
