8th Grade Algebra
8th grade math is working on its final 8th grade unit of study, Associations in Data. We are exploring scatter plots and lines of best fit, as well as various ways to explore how data is best represented graphically. Students will use the research they gathered from 8th grade surveys to explore the use of scatter plots. Students will have the final district Interim on May 9th, as well as take the high school placement test for the determination of their math class on May 23rd. Thank you for helping to best prepare these students for the next challenge in their education. We all could not do it without you!
Integrated Math II -
Integrated Math II students are in the final stretch - the final exam will be administered on May 15 and 16, 2024! Students have started studying in class and have begun making their formula sheets as they take practice tests, work on their test-taking and study strategies, and prepare for one last chance to show what they know. The final exam covers everything they learned this year and it’s a big undertaking: trigonometry, geometry, quadratics, and everything in between. It’s been a great year with a lot of hard work and we are all so happy to see it pay off for the Integrated II students.
Language Arts
Science
We are continuing our studies of the Physical Sciences with our sixth and final unit, Astronomy. In this unit, students will learn how to recognize patterns we see in the night sky. Students will then create and analyze models of these motions as we attempt to explain why and how those patterns can exist. Students will then use the patterns that we discover to describe the relationship our earth has with other objects in space as we make our way around our local star. Classwork assignments are expected to be completed in class each day through a combination of Chromebook and Journal work. There will be no assigned homework for the duration of the school year.
Social Studies
Your student will have their picture book based on themes they followed in the novel “Stamped”. They completed the novel three ways, Stamped Remix (young adult), Stamped for kids, and Stamped the graphic novel. They are transforming their themes into picture books they will read to surrounding elementary schools May 28th or 29th. In addition we will finish out the year unpacking some personal financial literacy through Junior Achievement lessons which will culminate in a field trip Junior Achievement arranges to test their new financial literacy skills.
