MS 50 Updates: Week of March 4, 2024
The 2024 NYC Public School survey is now live! We want to thank all of the families who have already completed the survey, your feedback is valuable to help improve the learning environment for all our families.
To access the family survey, please go the NYC School Survey website or access the survey through your NYC Schools Account. To complete the survey, you will type lowercase "f" followed by your student's OSIS number–for example, f123456789. If you have any difficulty completing the survey, please contact Edda our Parent Coordinator.

Summer Rising Applications are now Open!
Applications for Summer Rising are now open on your MySchools account. MS 50 is a host sight this year in partnership with El Puente Beacon. The application is open now through March 25th. The MySchools account is the same one used to apply for middle school and high school. If you need assistance accessing your account, please email our Parent Coordinator Edda for help. Valentines Dance
Our Valentines Dance on February 15 was a huge hit! We had so much fun dancing with all of our students who came out. A big thank you to all of the families who donated snacks and drinks for the event. Check out some highlights from the dance on our website and view the whole photo album on Google Drive.

Repertorio Español Performance
We are thrilled to once again partner with Repertorio Español to present "En el Tiempo de las Mariposas," a play about the Mirabal sisters and their courageous resistance to Rafael Trujillo's dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. The play is performed in Spanish with English super-titles projected. This FREE event is open to the community and will be performed on Tuesday, March 26th at 6:00PM. This performance is sponsored by City Council Member Jennifer Gutíerrez and the Cultural Immigrant Initiative.
The Lion King Jr.
MS 50 Theatre is proud to present "The Lion King Jr." on Friday, April 5th at 4:30PM and Saturday, April 6th at 1:00PM. This FREE production is perfect for all ages! Watch our students transform into the iconic characters from the Pridelands and perform your favorite songs including "The Circle of Life," "I Just Can't Wait to be King," "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," and many more! We hope to see you there!
Saturday School Continues!
We are excited to invite all our students to MS 50 ELA/Math/ENL Saturday School. We have prepared small group, intensive ELA, Math and ENL practice in preparation for the New York State Common Core exam. Saturday School will be held from 9:00AM– 12:30PM on the following Saturdays:
- March 9, 16, 23
- April 6, 13
Your child will work with MS 50 teachers who will supplement our current ELA and Math curriculum with targeted skill practice. All students will receive a metro card, pizza and snacks. Please complete the permission slip on Operoo to register your student.
PTA Updates
March PTA Meeting This Week
Join us this Thursday, March 7th, at 6:00PM for our monthly PTA meeting! We will be sharing important information about Summer Rising registration, discussing a variety of upcoming events and opportunities, reviewing our protocol for the upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences and more! We hope to see you there!

The fundraising committee is excited to announce that we have raised $3,685 in our campaign to raise $10,000 for MS 50, and we invite you to be a vital part of this incredible initiative and help us reach our goal!
Why Contribute?
- Propel Our Debate Team: Your support will send our brilliant debate team to Regional Finals, allowing them to showcase their skills on a broader stage.
- Cultivate a Living Roof: Additional funds raised will contribute seed money towards a living roof. a long-term, ambitious goal we have to foster sustainability and environmental education for our students.

i-Ready Homework Reminder
One of our goals this year is for every student at MS 50 to complete 30 minutes of i-Ready ELA lessons and 30 minutes of i-Ready math lessons as part of their homework every week. Teachers will check the previous week’s work every Monday. Students can use their @nycstudents account to log into i-Ready by visiting clever.com.
If logging in on an iPad, you must first download and login to the Clever app. You can then launch i-Ready from Clever and students will be logged in. Download this information sheet for more detailed instructions.
