K-8 SCHOOL NEWS
MIDDLE SCHOOL AWARDS ASSEMBLY ~ Our middle school scholars and families are invited to attend our Virtual Awards Assembly next Monday, June 10 at 3pm.
MISS D’S TIP OF THE WEEK ~ Successful learners often do what they need to do until the job is done. The school year may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean it’s time for rest and relaxation just yet. Help your scholar stay motivated during these last few school days by practicing some positive reinforcement! Praise them for a job well done each day they complete their work, even though they might be ready for summer break already!
ONLINE HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
AVID ~ With less than two weeks left in the school year, many scholars are eagerly anticipating some well-deserved time off. However, families are encouraged to avoid the “summer slide” by keeping their scholars active and engaged during summer break. Studies show that scholars can lose up to one month of grade-level learning during the summer. There are a variety of ways that families can prevent this learning loss. Scholars can stay active during the summer by taking online classes, co-reading books with their learning coach, volunteering, learning a new language or journaling their summer activities.
END OF THE YEAR AWARDS ASSEMBLY ~ Our high school scholars and learning coaches are invited to attend our virtual End of the Year Awards Assembly this Friday, June 7 at 12pm. The learning coaches of scholars who are receiving an award will be sent an email this week.
MRS. SMITH’S TIP OF THE WEEK ~ The countdown has started! There are less than two weeks left of the school year. This week is the last week for learning labs. Be sure that your scholar attends all of their learning labs to ask questions, review for their exams, and receive additional help on those big assignments.
COUNSELING SERVICES
WORK & ENTERTAINMENT PERMITS ~ Attention learning coaches! As we prepare to end the school year we want to make sure that your scholar submits a request for a work permit before summer break. If your scholar is interested in a work permit or an entertainment permit, please contact Ms. Olson, the College & Career Readiness Counselor, at molson@compasscharters.org by next Friday, June 14.
SAMARITAN AWARD HOURS ~ The CCS Samaritan Award is awarded to scholars who complete a minimum of 50 hours of community service during the school year. If your scholar has completed community service hours, please submit their hours by this Wednesday, June 5 to Ms. Olson at molson@compasscharters.org.
MULTI -TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORTS SPOTLIGHT (MTSS) ~ This week’s MTSS spotlight expands how learning coaches can use Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at home. This week we will tackle parameter 4, consequences. When problem behavior occurs, learning coaches can follow these steps: remain calm, remind your scholar of the expectation, re-teach/model and have your scholar practice the expected behavior, and finally, use consequences appropriately. Parents can decide ahead of time what consequences they will implement for problem behaviors and remember to save talking for when scholars are ready to listen. Lastly, parents can consider using a consequence that is age-appropriate and related to the problem behavior. For example, if a scholar leaves their bike in the wrong place they could lose their bike privileges tomorrow.
