Meet the Author: Ellen Potter
Join us as we welcome Maine author Ellen Potter to The Briar Patch for a signing of her new book, BIG FOOT AND LITTLE FOOT. In addition to autographing copies of her books, Ellen will be reading from her new book and leading a “Monster Trading Card” workshop where kids can create their own monster cards, just like the ones the Sasquatch kids trade in BIG FOOT AND LITTLE FOOT. Copies of Ellen Potter's books are available for sale at The Briar Patch. Stop in or call (207) 941-0255 to reserve a signed copy.
About BIG FOOT AND LITTLE FOOT:
Hugo is a young Sasquatch who longs for adventure. Boone is young boy who longs to see a Sasquatch. When their worlds collide, they become the unlikeliest pair of best friends.
At the Academy for Curious Squidges, Hugo learns all manner of Sneaking—after all, the most important part of being a Sasquatch is staying hidden from humans. But Hugo dreams of roaming free in the Big Wide World rather than staying cooped up in caves. When he has an unexpected run-in with a young human boy, Hugo seizes the opportunity for a grand adventure. Soon, the two team up to search high and low for mythical beasts, like Ogopogos and Snoot-Nosed Gints. Through discovering these new creatures, together, Big Foot and Little Foot explore the ins and outs of each other’s very different worlds but learn that, deep down, maybe they’re not so different after all.
About Ellen Potter, author:
Ellen Potter is the award-winning author of many books for children, including the Olivia Kidney series, Slob, The Kneebone Boy, and most recently, the Piper Green series. She lives in Maine.

Meet the Author: Hope Rowan
Hope Rowan will discuss the inspiration behind her kids’ hiking guide, as well as speaking to the importance of getting kids outdoors. The book follows a fictional young girl and her family on their vacation to Acadia National Park and Mount Desert Island. Twelve-year- old Hattie describes ten different hiking trails, giving details of everything she sees, hears, smells, and feels while hiking with her family. The guidebook also includes hiking tips, rainy-day ideas, and a resource list, plus full-color trail maps, photographs, and illustrated field notes by Maine artist Jada Fitch.
The hiking guide Includes:
-Large overview map of Mount Desert Island
-Color trail maps of each hike, with trails marked by level of difficulty
-Photos of each hike
-Illustrations and field notes of animals and plants you might see on each hike
-Hiking and safety tips
-Rainy-day resources and ideas
Hope Rowan likes looking under seaweed, mucking around in dirt, and studying maps. She has spent the past fifteen years creating, designing, and teaching children about maps as a certified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Professional. Her first tent camping in Maine was in a crib and she was introduced to the trails of Acadia from her father’s shoulders. Hope’s vacation experiences in Acadia led her to attend the College of the Atlantic where she received an advanced degree in Human Ecology. Now she lives on Mount Desert Island with Acadia National Park as her backyard.
The event will include book sales and signing.
