The Wildcat Monthly
August 2020
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!
Welcome to the new school year Komarek families! While we realize that this is not the traditional start that we look forward to, we are still so excited to get to know our students and families!
Our team is looking forward to giving our students the best educational experience! The teachers have been working hard to continue challenging our students and prepare for the start of the year within the remote learning model. Please feel free to reach out to either of us with any questions or concerns that you may have. We are here to help and support in any way that we can!

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 19th.
How will I find out my child's teacher? Grades K-2
Teachers will be sending out communication to families in their class via Class Dojo or email.
How will I find out my child's teacher(s)? Grades 3-8
Class and teacher assignments will be available through PowerSchool beginning Tuesday, August 11th. Please contact Ashley Sopata in the school office if you are having difficulty viewing this information.
My child has an IEP or 504, how will he/she receive their services and support?
We are currently working with our team to explore all possible options, and determine how to safely meet student needs as best as possible. At this time, we do not have the capability to provide in person instruction during the first quarter. All students with IEPs and 504s will be looked at individually, and your child's case manager will work with you through any recommendations for amendments to the IEP/504.
Can I homeschool my child for the 2020-2021 school year?
If you make the choice to homeschool your child/children, please inform the school office at (708) 447-8030 ext 100 so that we can update their records.
When will we come back to in-person learning?
Komarek School District 94 will operate under the remote learning model for the first quarter. As a district, we will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and recommendations, and communicate any changes to our learning model to the community.

Welcome, Miss Gordon!
Hello! My name is Chante Gordon, and I am so excited to be at Komarek this year! I graduated from Western Governors University this spring and have worked with kindergarten, second grade, and fourth grade the most throughout my schooling. Second grade has always had my heart and I am thrilled to join the Komarek community. I have already felt so welcomed! In my free time, I enjoy reading, caring for my plants, and going for long walks around my neighborhood. I am looking forward to meeting the parents and students of the Komarek community!
Information for Parents of Students with IEPs and 504 Plans
We understand that COVID-19 has imposed difficulties for our families, especially those that have students with a disability. We are continuously working on planning for delivery of special education services in a way which best meets our student needs. While this has been a difficult process, we continue to consider the feedback, questions and concerns from our families and staff.
We will continue to do our best to be responsive to our community during this health and safety crisis. Designing service delivery models and schedules for students with special needs is a complex challenge during “normal” circumstances, so we respectfully ask that you please bear with us as we consider how best to meet student needs with a new and unusual set of conditions.
When making decisions for the district, the health and safety of our students leads us in our options. This year, our remote learning will be more structured than it was last spring. There will be more frequent and lengthier opportunities for services to be delivered to our students. You will receive communication from your child’s general education teacher, detailing the format for general education instruction. You will also be in contact with your child’s case manager in regards to how special education services will be scheduled and delivered during our period of remote learning.
Unlike this past spring, we will be amending IEPs to reflect our programming for students this year. This will be determined and scheduled on an individual basis by your case manager. This will take time on our end so we appreciate your patience and look forward to collaborating with you to make any necessary changes to your child’s IEP.
Fall Preschool Screening (Tentative)
We are planning to hold our first preschool screening this fall on Friday, October 2nd. Preschool screening is designed to assess a child's development and assist in identifying children who may require further evaluation to determine eligibility for special education services or those who may be eligible for a state-funded preschool program. The screenings are by appointment, and at no cost to families.
Participation in the screening process does not guarantee a spot within the preschool program, but may put your child on the list of potential preschoolers for this year and/or next year. Your child must be at least two and one half years old to attend a screening. If you would like to sign your child up for a screening, please contact Gail Anderson at ganderson@komarek94.org or 708-447-8030 extension 101.
**If you have a child currently receiving early intervention services, you are not required to attend a screening. Please work with your child's case manager to schedule a transition meeting with the school.**
