What's up at PISD
CCMR
One thing we are very guilty of in education is using acronyms and assuming that everyone knows what weŕe talking about. We are going to try very hard not to do that. We are also going to slip up from time to time and fail to that. I apologise in advance.
One acronym you are likely to see is CCMR. It stands for College, Career, and Military Readiness, and with the passage of House Bill 3 last summer and the earlier implementation of the A-F accountability system, it has become a very big topic in Texas education. It is part of the accountability rating assigned to high schools and districts, school boards are now required by law to set goals relating to increasing it, and some of our district funding depends upon it.
So exactly what is it?
Each student who graduates from Perryton High School will be identified as College Ready if that student scores high enough on a college entrance exam (such as the ACT or SAT), earns a passing score on an Advanced Placement (AP) exam, takes certain dual credit courses while in high school, or meets other criteria defined by the Texas Education Agency.
A student can be identified as Career Ready if he or she earns an industry standard certificate from a list of approved certificates or completes a specific sequence of courses during high school (a coherent sequence).
A student can be identified a Military Ready if he or she enlists in the military.

Last month, the Board of Trustees set a goal that 92% of our PHS graduates achieve at least one of these ratings.

Strategic Planning
As we mentioned last week, the District will be developing a long-term strategic plan over the next several months. We will be asking our community to help us define what we want Perryton ISD to be, anId what do we want a graduate of Perryton ISD to look like?
If we are going to be successful, we need your voice to be part of the conversation. If you are interested in participating in our planning meetings in the spring, please reach out to me or to Darin Clark, our District Communication Director, so that we can include you in the planning meetings.

Ludi Peña Martin Accelerated Education Center
At the last Board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved renaming the Top of Texas Alternative Learning Center to the Ludi Peña Martin Accelerated Education Center. Over the next several weeks, you will start to see that change in our District documents, website, and other messages.
Ludi was a truly amazing person. Itś hard to count the number of students who have a high school diploma today because she simply could not give up on a child. I was only blessed to know her a short time, but no one in this community made me feel more welcome, and there was no one that I trusted or respected more. She will continue to be missed, but we are all better people for having her light as part of our lives.

Employee of the Week
Cassie took the time to put special books in our boxes to share with our students this week. The books are to help encourage kindness which is something she goes above and beyond to demonstrate.
