A Message from Mrs. Kyncl
Dear Roosevelt Families,
I am so thankful to have been able to spend several weeks at home recovering after surgery. While I still have a little ways to go, it has been wonderful being back in the building on a reduced schedule. Big thanks to Mrs. Hines for leading the building in my absence and for her continuous support for our students and staff. This spring will bring some challenges as I enter the next stage. I look forward to fully getting rid of the cancer and feeling like myself again. Thank you to so many who have reached out and offered words of encouragement. I feel so blessed to lead our building in such an amazing community.
Thank you to our PTO for planning several fun activities for March is Reading Month! The Read a Thon and the Book Fair were both a big hit! One of our goals at Roosevelt Elementary is to instill a love for reading. Thank you for supporting and encouraging your children to become lifelong readers, as well. One of my fondest memories when my kids were little was reading each night before bed. That was always such a special time and something that I hope they always remember.
Congratulations and great job to our 4th and 5th graders for a wonderful music program this week! Huge thanks to Mrs. Reid for her preparation with the students so that they could shine on the stage. It was so wonderful to see so many of you there.
Spring Break is right around the corner. As a reminder we will have a half day of school on Thursday, March 28th and Spring Break begins! There will be no school on Friday, March 29th. We will welcome your children back to school on Monday, April 8th!
With Many Thanks,
Mrs. Kyncl

M-STEP Testing
After Spring Break the testing window for M-STEP begins. Our students in 3rd-5th grade will take this summative assessment that is required by the state of Michigan. It is a summative assessment intended to gather information on what students have learned throughout the year. Our 4th graders kick us off by starting their testing on April 16th. Other testing dates can be viewed above on our day by day breakdown. Spring time is a very busy time for families and it is very important that your children continue to get great sleep so that they can come to school feeling rested and ready to take on the day! If your child is in 3rd-5th grade their classroom teacher may reach out to you regarding specific requests for help during the testing period. We always want our students to know that as long as they do their best they are doing great! Please know that NO electronic devices are allowed in the classroom. This includes cell phones, tablets, and smart watches. Those items have to be off and inside their locker. (This does NOT include those students who have a smart device helping to manage diabetes.)
Feel free to check out this parent guide!
A Note from the Office
If your child will be late or absent, please contact the office before 9:00 am at 269-428-1416. You may leave a voicemail if you call in before school hours or if other calls are being attended to. It is required by the state to report the reason for an absence so please share the reason/symptom and/or type of illness if known. No communication about an absence will result in an unexcused absence for the day. Late students need to be signed in by an adult in the office (door 3).
If there is a need to have medication or cough drops at school for your child, please fill out the appropriate medication form that is found on our website. An adult is required to bring any medication into the school office as students are not permitted to carry themselves. We will store and dispense medication from the office. If you feel your child is done with taking their medication at school, you may pick it up at any time.
If you have any questions, please reach out to memery@lpslancer.net or 269-428-1416.
Updated COVID Guidelines
We received confirmation from the Berrien County Health Department that the isolation period for those having COVID has changed. The CDC has now combined COVID, the flu, RSV, and other respiratory viral illnesses under one umbrella as far as how long to stay home to reduce the spread.
Updated Guidance: The updated Respiratory Virus Guidance recommends that people stay home and away from others until at least 24 hours after both their symptoms are getting better overall, and they have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Note that depending on the length of symptoms, this period could be shorter, the same, or longer than the previous guidance for COVID-19.
It is important to note that the guidance doesn’t end with staying home and away from others when sick. The guidance encourages added precaution over the next five days after time at home, away from others, is over. Since some people remain contagious beyond the “stay-at-home” period, a period of added precaution using prevention strategies, such as taking more steps for cleaner air, enhancing hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, keeping a distance from others, and/or getting tested for respiratory viruses can lower the chance of spreading respiratory viruses to others.

Picking Up An Ill Child
If they leave with a fever or they have vomited more that once, they will need to spend the following day out of school. They may return when they haven't had a fever or vomited for 24 hours without medication.
