"A young lady, who lost her dad, was not alone on Donuts with Dudes. Our AMAZING custodian loves our kiddos and always goes above and beyond for them and us! He offered to be her “Dude” for today’s donuts with dudes (aka donuts with dads, but we made it more inclusive). He came in special, in a suit to escort her. It was so beautiful! He is also going to be a watchdog “dad” this year for her and her class." -Theresa Ryan

CONGRATULATIONS to our very own Dr. Jayne Fonash, School Counseling Director at ACL. Jayne was recently elected president-elect of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC).-Dr. Jackson
Arlington, VA (Sept. 29, 2018) — Dr. Jayne Caflin Fonash, director of school counseling at The Academies of Loudon (VA), was voted president-elect of the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) today at the association’s 74th National Conference in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Fonash, who has a background in mental health counseling, has worked as a school counselor for more than two decades and is a longtime member of both NACAC and the Potomac & Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling (PCACAC). She was PCACAC’s president in 2010-11 and served on NACAC’s Government Relations Committee from 2012 to 2015, earning the association’s Excellence in Government Relations Award in 2013. She was also recognized by PCACAC in 2015 as the recipient of the Apperson Award, the association’s award for service to students, to PCACAC and to the college counseling profession.
Her priorities include broadening NACAC’s reach, expanding the association’s educational offerings, championing ethical practices within the profession, and working to insure access and equity in the transition to post-secondary education.
"As we continue to build diversity in our membership and leadership, we must be intentional about including those whose presence is missing and whose voices must be taken seriously,” Dr. Fonash told NACAC members during an address at the association’s Leadership Development Training earlier this year. “We must also continue to strengthen NACAC's fiscal health, which enables us to build ladders of success for every child and family, and professional growth for our members.”

Virtual Loudoun- Cynthia Fillman
We are experiencing a successful Term 1 session, serving almost 800 students currently. We added a new member to our team in August: Traci Scannell Crowe, who is our EL Instructor, supporting our English Language Learners who take online classes.
Students may withdraw from a Term 1 virtual course between September 29 and November 16 with a “Withdraw Pass” (WP) if the current grade, as determined by the progress measured by the pacing guide, is 60% or higher, or a “Withdrawal Fail” (WF) if the grade is below 60. Withdrawals do not impact GPA. After November 16, student may only “Withdraw Pass” with no impact to GPA. Term 1 concludes at 11:59pm on Friday, December 14.
If you are curious about how Virtual Loudoun has grown since the program began, check out this enrollment graph: (see below).

The Center for Legal & Court Technology (CLCT) at William & Mary Law School
The Center for Legal & Court Technology (CLCT) at William & Mary Law School is pleased to announce the 2019 law-related program for high school students.
This unique and innovative program consists of interactive and dynamic courses designed to stimulate students’ conceptual learning and problem solving skills. The courses cover a variety of topics ranging from the US legal system, contracts and torts, to legal issues arising from emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence. We recommend these courses to students who are keen to explore what studying law entails, but also for those who have a passion for government studies or are interested in business and technology.
The courses are taught by Professors Fred Lederer and Iria Giuffrida, members of the faculty at William & Mary Law School and respectively CLCT’s Director and Associate Director for Research. All classes are held at the William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, VA, which offers an exceptional opportunity for high school students to experience life in a law school that is home to the most technologically advanced courtroom in the nation.
Attached is the flyer which we would be most grateful if you would share with your students. A full list of courses, including dates and prices, is available on CLCT’s website: www.legaltechcenter.net. Registration will begin on October 15, 2018.
