Penny Wars for the Polar Plunge
Mr. Gamble and Mr. D did the polar plunge last weekend for the Special Olympics!
The money collected from the first week went to sponsor Mr. Gamble's and Mr. D's Polar Plunge Fundraising for Special Olympics. The money collected the second week will go directly to the Special Olympics of Nebraska. We raised over $85 total.
It was almost too close to call. Middle school won by a slight margin. Since we all win when we come together for a good cause, ALL LEARNERS grades K-10 may wear pj's on their class day. They may also bring their favorite stuffed animal. Please keep pj's appropriate, and ensure that stuffed animals are clean before you bring them.
Thank you all for your support!
Support our Robotics Teams!!!
The robotics teams have performed wonderfully this season. All students involved have worked so hard the past several months to represent themselves and the school. I am extremely proud of all the students and the effort they put into this program.
The middle school concluded their regular season with three tournaments under their belt. The teams placed 4th, 17th, and 23rd at the recent tournament at Beveridge. One team even reached the semi-finals! I just received the final season standings for the Skills competition and ALL THREE QUALIFY FOR REGIONALS! All three teams will compete March 1-2 in the Heartland Regionals in Council Bluffs. More information to follow on this.
The elementary teams did outstanding at the Davis Middle competition with one team (C4149C) winning the tournament! This automatically qualified them for the Heartland Regionals this past Saturday, WHICH THEY WON!! Congratulations to them on their hard-fought victory. This win automatically qualified them for the US Open on April 3-4. This is the top tournament for the Create Jr. level. Good luck to them.
I’m eager to see what the middle school Regionals and Create Jr. US Open brings for these students.

Snow Day Clarity
If OPS has a snow day, Omaha Virtual School is closed. This means teachers and staff do not report. So, no online lessons, no one to answer the phone, and emails sent that day may not be returned.
If there is a snow day on your learner's assigned day, we do not count that as an absence. It is a lost day. It is NOT required for your learner to make up that day at the center or those hours on campus.
It IS an option for your learner to come on the next session during the week. If you would like to do so, please EMAIL the team of teachers, so they are prepared for your learner.

Ms. Rogers' Class Update
We continued talking about community helpers this week. Learners listened to a book about a community helper and worked on an organizer to show their understanding. I was able to meet with learners and check in with them on how they are doing with their sight words. In Math, we continued to work on our money book and math fact fluency.
Looking Ahead:
We will be working on retelling a story inside of Seesaw this week. In Math we will focus on addition and subtraction fact fluency. We will also continue working on our "Show Me the Money" book.
Reminder: No Class Connect on Monday due to President's Day. See you for F2F time!
Mr. Dowling's Class update
Week in Review:
We have been working with Main Idea and Supporting details in class. The learners seem to be getting a solid grasp on the concept. I assigned the last set of chapters in their Lit Circle books this week. Please make sure they finish their book. One of the students took home my copy of How to Eat Fried Worms. It has a couple of Turkey bookmarks in it as well as some yellow sticky notes. Please return it with your learner next week.
Looking Ahead:
We will be finishing our unit on Main Idea and Supporting details over the next two weeks. We have been practicing both fiction and nonfiction. In math we will be breaking down story problems and explaining them in multiple ways.
Please double check your learner’s backpack. They need to have their Lit Circle book and their purple folders each week. Also, please turn in graded artifacts as they complete them. Please do not wait until the end of the quarter. We only have 3 weeks left. Stay focused on working hard everyday to keep up with the pacing guide. We’re getting close to the final push.
We will be deciding on our 4th Quarter Lit Circle books this week. I will be emailing you with the selection next Friday. That will give you 3 weeks to locate/order the book. Thanks!
Mrs. Walker's Class Update
Week in Review:
This week we tried something new and used Flipgrid in our classroom. This is an online classroom similar to SeeSaw and students have the opportunity to record a video answering questions where other students can see their responses and reply with a video! Students had fun this week trying this out with introductions in our classroom! We also played battleship with a partner in class using what we learned about coordinate planes!
Next Week:
We will be using Flipgrid to answer some questions about our Lit Circle books! Excited to try something new!
Mr. Gamble's Class Update
Week in Review:
The week was productive and learners accomplished a lot. Middle school students got new devices with an image that addressed many problems in the past. High school students can look forward to this next week.
Looking Ahead:
We want to continue riding the momentum we have gained due to the hard work the learners are putting forth in their coursework. Keep watching the pacing guide for the expected completion tasks. Also, remember all lesson quizzes require an A, B, or C to move forward. All tests require an A or B. If you don’t achieve these levels of mastery, you must review, relearn, and retake.
Reach out for assistance with any areas that are proving difficult. I am eager to help you during the available times. I am available during PIT on Wednesday (60th & L) 1-3, Friday (online) 10-11, as well as the normal required online sessions.
Resources:
This month’s resource is a return to a reliable site. Symbolab is a great resource for parents to support their learners in math. This free math problem solver answers Algebra, Geometry, and many more problems with step-by-step explanations. Learning coaches can use this to verify learner answers and get steps on difficult problems.
Weekly Online Math Sessions:
Remember that all math sessions are required for all learners. This will allow us to connect on past, present, or future topics. It also allows a check-in with the teacher for verification of progress. Learners: come prepared with questions or concerns on lessons or topics of your choice.
The schedule for regular online Math sessions is as follows:
Math 06: Mondays @ 9:15 – 10:00.Math 07: Mondays @ 10:15 – 11:00.
Math 08: Fridays @ 9:15 – 10:00.
Algebra 1: Wednesdays @ 1:30 – 2:00.
Geometry & Honors: Mondays @ 1:00 – 1:30.
Mrs. Felten's Class Update

Mrs. Robison's Class Update
Happy 2019! A new year brings a new start! Fresh notebooks, clean folders, sharpened pencils and a re-commitment to organizational strategies are all things that will help kick off a successful second semester!
ELA and Computer Apps are going to continue to provide opportunities for your learner to grow and challenge themselves to be the best they can be! I can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for us!
Please bring notebook to Face to Face time next week! This will be a helpful tool to get the year jump started! Enjoy your weekend and I look forward to learning with you this year!
Mrs. Barry's Art Class Update
"You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." - Maya Angelou
Week in Review:
This week middle school learners explored the textile media of circle weaving. It was a new experience for many of the learners and all learners got off to a good start and caught on quickly. Their circle weavings will stay at OVS and be used as a finished early activity, brain break or after testing choice.
Looking Ahead:
