Where Everyone Can Succeed
PLP Yarn Up
A lovely turn out for our PLP Yarn Up last Wednesday afternoon starting with a gathering in Malang followed by terrific conversations, goal setting and sausage sandwiches (thanks GA John and team) near the silver seats.
Thanks to all who attended and supported a wonderful afternoon.
Thanks to Mrs Cook for her leadership of this event.
Parents at school
It is lovely seeing so many of our families in the mornings walking children to drop bags off and also joining in our morning walking club!
A respectful reminder that if children request parents to accompany them to bathrooms, all adults are to remain outside.
We thank you for your assistance.
Requests for meetings with staff members
The staff at Glendore Public School are always willing to meet and discuss any concerns or queries you may have about aspects of school and your child's education.
To request a meeting, please contact the office on 4955 6644 to arrange a time that is mutually convenient for both parties. You can appreciate that schools (like all work sites) are incredibly busy and complex places and that our staff are not always available without prior notice.
To avoid disappointment, please confirm your appointment before coming to school.
What is bullying?
Bullying is an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behaviour that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. Bullying of any form or for any reason can have immediate, medium and long-term effects on those involved, including bystanders. Single incidents and conflict or fights between equals, whether in person or online, are not defined as bullying.
Bullying has three key features. It:
- involves a misuse of power in a relationship
- is ongoing and repeated, and
- involves behaviours that can cause harm.
Bullying can also occur online. This is known as cyberbullying which is using technology such as the internet or mobile devices to bully someone. It can include sending abusive texts and emails, posting hurtful messages and putting inappropriate comments on pictures of others.
Bullying of any kind is not acceptable in NSW schools, whatever the reason. Schools are committed to working with parents, staff and students to prevent bullying and respond quickly and effectively if it does occur.
Social Media
Please note that social media platforms such as Facebook, Snapchat, Tik Tok, Instagram and so on have an age restriction of 13 years +.
We have found that most instances of cyber bullying (brought to our attention at school) occur via social media platforms like those mentioned above. Children do not access these during school hours and we implore you to closely monitor the internet and social media usage of your children to avoid safety risks, peer conflicts and incidents of online bullying.
Our recommendation is to adhere to the age limits to avoid unnecessary upset and exposure to often hurtful content.
We thank you for your support with this.
Bus travel to and from school
We have recently had a number of serious incidents reported to us about unsafe, aggressive and disrespectful behaviour by some Glendore students travelling home by bus.
This morning, Mrs White and I met with representatives from Hunter Valley Buses (Transport NSW) to discuss safe travel to and from school and the guidelines for managing school student behaviour on buses.
Transport NSW (in partnership with Glendore PS staff) expect that all students adhere to the Student Code of Conduct when travelling.
The Student Code of Conduct exists to ensure students travel safely and show respect for others.
Students must follow regulations when travelling between home and school using public transport.
All students must behave in a manner that ensures both their comfort and safety and that of other passengers.
Disobeying these rules may lead to:
the withdrawal of school travel passes.
banning students from travelling on public transport.
police prosecution and court action.
We expect every Glendore PS student utilising the bus service to adhere to this code of conduct, and we seek the support of parents and carers to remind children of these expectations and potential consequences.
ALL students have the right to travel safely to and from school.
A reminder from the bus company also, that any students catching a public bus to school, will need to alert the driver (by way of hand signal) that the bus needs to stop to collect them. Non-designated school route buses will not automatically stop at every bus stop.
We look forward to safer travel to and from school with your assistance.
Please read the attachment below outlining the Code of Conduct for School Students on Buses.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone,
Annette Van Egmond
(Principal)

Students can start collecting hours now - If you already have a passport, you can continue to fill it out. If you are new and waiting on a passport, you can use these blank pages or a plain sheet of paper and stick or copy into your passport when it arrives.
This year all students K-6 at Glendore Public School are encouraged to participate in the Premiers Reading Challenge.
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable them to experience quality literature.
It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
K-2 teachers will assist with the completion of this challenge.
3-6 are to read books on their own, but someone can help you choose them.
Challenge closes Friday 23rd of August for student entries.
So many reasons to read together:
- Builds connection
- Improves communication
- Helps to develop listening skills
- Develops vocabulary
- Increases empathy and emotional awareness
- Sparks creativity and imagination
When it comes to school attendance, every day matters
Taking just a few days off each month can set your child back years in their learning. The more time your child attends school, the more they'll be able to develop academically, socially and emotionally.
If you're concerned about your child's attendance or any other issues that may affect this, please speak with the school.

The staff and students at Glendore would like to thank the parents and community members who are part of our wonderful P&C. Over the last few years, they have raised money for most of the air conditioners in the classrooms, new netball and soccer uniforms, over $30000 for teacher resources and much much more to support the students at Glendore. Meetings are held in the library week 3 and 8 every term.
Next Monday will be our AGM. This is where all the executive roles are released and available to be applied for. This includes the role of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Fundraising Coordinator. To nominate for one of these positions you need to be a financial member and have attended at least one meeting prior.
After the AGM a short meeting will be held.
See you there
