A Message From Superintendent Dr. Susan Coleman
Dear Golf 67 Families,
I hope that 2023 has begun in a positive way for all of our students, staff, and families. As always, a new year brings with it reflection on the past and goals for the future. As we evaluate all that has gone well in the past year, my first thoughts are of gratitude for the work of our Golf 67 family; staff, teachers, and administrators. In addition, I am so proud of our students who have been participating in MAP testing and showing their best efforts. I continue to be amazed at the demonstrations of learning, caring, growth, and perseverance by students and staff alike.
There are a lot of exciting things happening in our schools. Please read on to learn more!
Yours in service,
Dr. Susan Coleman
Superintendent
Community Feedback Meeting
In June 2022 the District 67 voters did not approve a proposed referendum to build a new school. This new school would have addressed the maintenance of our aging facilities, space and programming needs. These needs continue to be unmet for the District and the District Administration discussed how to move forward with the community to identify how these needs could be met . The decision was made to bring together representative members of the community that had an interest in how the District will move forward . The committee members are Dr. Coleman, Superintendent, Mrs. Ewanio, Director of Business Services, Carrie Matlock, DLA Architects, two school board members and five community members. The committee has had two meetings to date.
The first meeting was held in November where the committee established their purpose, identified District facility challenges to address, and information that needed to be obtained. The jointly created purpose of the committee is:
To work together to better understand the facility and
programming needs of the district and gather
information to help identify a path forward.
The challenges the committee plans to address are maintaining facilities, meeting space needs and programming for curriculum . Information determined that would be needed to help achieve this purpose is an updated Facility Report, proposed solutions for the expiration of the mobile classrooms at Hynes, prioritized list of facility needs, review of school finance including school debt (bonds), and alternative revenue sources (if available).
The second meeting of the committee was held on January 31, 2023, where the updated Facility Report and a proposed solution for the mobile classrooms at Hynes elementary school was presented. The committee’s next meeting will discuss school finance, D67’s current financial state including debt (bonds) and proposed funding options for the facility needs.
The Administration will continue to update our community of future committee work. It is anticipated that there will be an opportunity for wider community input.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Hynes Elementary School is getting ready for the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge (KHC). This year, we will be learning about staying strong in body and mind, we will get moving with fun activities, meet kids with special hearts, and raise funds for the health of all hearts. Plus, our students will feel good for doing good!
If you would like to participate, please download the Kids Heart Challenge App or visit heart.org/KHC to register today and earn your own BE THE TORCH WRISTBAND so you can help light the way! If by chance you do not want to download the app, your child(ren) will be bringing home a collection envelope with all the info you need. Whether or not you participate in the donation process, all students will take part in the event the week of February 13-17th during their Physical Education class time.
Thank you for keeping more hearts beating strong!

ROARING 20's
The Class of 2023 dressed to the nines and came ready to celebrate the Roaring 20s at their classroom celebration hosted by Ms. Joyner and Mr. Kirk. Students represented major players of the decade, from Salvador Dali to Clara Bow, from Joe Louis to Edith Wharton.
Special thanks to the wonderful 8th-grade parents who donated treats and supplies, and a shout-out to Mr. (George) Kirk for volunteering the entire day. He's the cat's pajamas.
D67 FOUNDATION
The Foundation is best known for its two major fundraising events each year: The D67 Dash Family 5K Run/Walk and Trivia Night. Registration for the 2023 Trivia Night at the Moose Lodge on April 15th in Morton Grove will open in March. Watch the Foundation’s website, golf67foundation.org, for registration information. The Foundation is run by a very small group of dedicated volunteers and is looking for additional alumni, parents of current or former students, and community members to lend a hand.
Foundation meetings occur via Zoom and are held only four times each year for 30 minutes at a time, so the time commitment to get involved is minimal.
