Happy New Year
Battle of the Books
Mrs. Reich and I are preparing for a memorable, very competitive, and fun school battle. I want to say how proud I am of this group. Most schools are struggling to keep two teams enrolled to compete in the district. Next week, Trailside is proudly presenting 6 teams of 4 in our 3/4 school battle and 4 teams in our 5/6 battle. Timberwolves sure do love to read! The top 2 teams from each school battle will represent Trailside at the district-wide Battle of the Books.

This story was going to begin like all the best stories. With a school bus falling from the sky. But no one saw it happen. They were all too busy—
Talking about boogers.
Stealing pocket change.
Skateboarding.
Wiping out.
Braving up.
Executing complicated handshakes.
Planning an escape.
Making jokes.
Lotioning up.
Finding comfort.
But mostly, too busy walking home.
City Spies by James Ponti
Operating out of a base in Scotland, the City Spies are five kids from various parts of the world. When they’re not attending the local boarding school, they’re honing their unique skills, such as sleight of hand, breaking and entering, observation, and explosives. All of these allow them to go places in the world of espionage where adults can’t.
Lifeboat 12 by Susan Hood
With Nazis bombing London every night, it’s time for thirteen-year-old Ken to escape. He suspects his stepmother is glad to see him go, but his dad says he’s one of the lucky ones—one of ninety boys and girls to ship out aboard the SS City of Benares to safety in Canada.
