First Days of School
From the Principal's Office
Dear Braintree Families,
We had a great first week of school at Braintree Elementary School! Students met their teachers and got to engage in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Physical Education, Music, and Art. Next week we will start Library on Monday!
We did a great job wearing masks and keeping our hands clean this week. Keep it up everyone so we can have a safe and healthy school year. Please see the updates from the Health Office in this newsletter.
Science updates: We have been enjoying learning about clouds and weather in grades 4-6. Ask you children about the clouds this weekend to see what they have learned! All students have been enjoying the Monarch caterpillars and butterflies. Several classrooms have observations set up to watch the transformation. Ms. Robinson's class explored science through the lens of investigation and data collection and solved a mystery!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Heather Lawler

Health Office Update
Students and staff should stay home and will be excluded from in-person school activities, if they:
Show symptoms of COVID-19: Fever (100.4°F or higher), Nausea, Cough, Vomiting, Shortness of Breath, Diarrhea, Sore Throat, Fatigue, Runny Nose, Muscle Aches, Loss of Smell or Taste, Headache.
Have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
Have a fever (temperature higher than 100.4°F)
Have a significant new rash, particularly when other symptoms are present
Have large amounts of nasal discharge in the absence of allergy diagnosis
Students and staff will be required to reach out to their Primary Care Physician (PCP) if they have any symptom of COVID-19. If their PCP does not think a test is warranted we will need a note from the doctor to be emailed, faxed, or dropped of stating that they don't need a COVID test before they can return to school. If their PCP does require a test we will need a copy of a negative test before they can re-enter school.
Students and staff should be excluded from school and remain in quarantine until they are no longer considered contagious – the determination for re-entry into school will be made by the school nurse.
Additionally:
Students and staff with a fever greater than 100.4°F and who have not been diagnosed with COVID-19, should remain at home until they have had no fever for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications (e.g., Advil, Tylenol).
Students who arrive from out-of-state must follow ACCD and Health Department guidance around quarantine before returning to school which includes travel out-of-state at any point during the school year. That information can be found here: https://accd.vermont.gov/covid-19/ individuals under the heading Cross State Travel Information.
Families and staff should make extra effort to avoid large gatherings or other situations that put them at risks for COVID-19 exposure.
