2016 Google Student Summit
Dallastown Area Intermediate School was selected as the sole recipient of the 2016 Google Student Summit Grant, an internationally awarded grant. The Intermediate School was chosen over 32 other schools across the globe. This highly selective grant required a 2-minute video and essay submission highlighting the current integration of technology throughout the school, as well as the impact technology has had on the Intermediate School culture. Eric Hartman, Erica Stermer, and Eric Verno led the collaborative team of teachers and students to the winning submission. The Student Summit was held at the Intermediate School on Friday, May 13, 2016. A group of 100 current 5th graders experienced a full day of high-intensity learning led by EdTechTeam Director Kern Kelly and Tech Sherpas. Students were engaged in learning, while creating take-away projects that will be used to enhance the 1: World Initiative. Students were immersed in an educational experience on effectively using technology tools and were provided with interactive sessions that include topics such as: Coding, Multimedia publishing, 3D Printing, Robotics, and Minecraft. The Student Summit was about empowering students to use the technology to actively build amazing things while developing leadership skills. http://local21news.com/news/local/local-school-earns-visit-from-google-innovators.
