Hilltop Parent Council Minutes
September 11, 2020
Positive Feedback
Phase 3 - In-person Learning
- The discussions regarding Phase 2 versus Phase 3 included the concern that going from everyday in-person instruction during Phase 1 to every other day in Phase 2 seemed like a setback
- The 2nd and 4th-grade classrooms were swapped so that every classroom could adhere to the 6ft social distancing rule
- 3-sided partitions have been ordered for student desks
Outdoor mask breaks
- 15 minutes in the middle of the school day for snack and relief from mask (some time between 10:30-11:30am)
- maintain social distancing
- students are asked to bring small towel to sit on during outdoor breaks to have a visual spot to help maintain social distance and to avoid sitting on wet ground
- Snack - continue “Crunch & Sip” - Nut Free, fruit or vegetable and water and allowed to also bring a cheese stick
Sick Days & Virtual Learning
Consideration for combining all virtual learners in each grade into one class with one teacher
In-seat students enjoy seeing their virtual classmates and like knowing that they’re still part of their community. Teachers are working very hard to get online students as involved as possible
THANK YOU HILLTOP!
Purpose, Policy and Structure
The Parent Council serves on a volunteer basis as a liaison to the school community in Mendham Borough. Board policy Relations With Parents provides that there shall be a Parent Council for each school (see policies 1010.1, 10101P) to meet regularly with the principal to discuss matters of interest. The primary objective of this Council is to foster dialogue and communication between parents and administration and to provide advice and counsel to administration relating to school-wide topics.
The Councils are not a substitute for individuals having direct contact with the appropriate school personnel. There is a board policy entitled Public Complaints and Inquiries (see policy 1312). Although members of the Parent Council may be contacted for advice with respect to the most appropriate way (teacher, guidance, principal, superintendent, Board) for parents and other interested parties to seek resolution of complaints, grievances, and misunderstandings, members of the Parent Council should not be contacted for the purpose of intervening in disputes between administration or staff members and individual students or parents.
