Freshmen - This is where we start keeping score! Every single grade whether it's for an assignment, project, or test will make a difference for your Grade Point Average (GPA). Your class rank will be officially calculated for the first time at the end of your first semester. You will also be accumulating credits required for graduation. Core classes are worth 6 credits a semester when you pass and most electives are worth 5 credits a semester. Band and choir are both worth 2.5 credits a semester. Sample transcript

What to look forward to:
- Creating and maintaining your GPA by putting forth full effort.
- Maintain or create your resume either with a word processing program or you can use Education Quest's Activities Resume.
- Be INVOLVED!!! Try going out for activities while you can! Research shows that students who are involved in extra-curricular activities also have higher grades!
- Career Day!
- Making positive memories with the staff and your friends at RHS!
Attendance is essential to school success, but too often students, parents and schools do not realize how quickly absences — excused and unexcused — can add up to academic trouble. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent of the school year, or just 2-3 days every month—can translate into third-graders unable to master reading, sixth-graders failing courses and ninth-graders dropping out of high school. Low-income students, who most depend on school for opportunities to learn, are especially harmed when they miss too much instruction. www.attendanceworks.org
Attend today. Achieve tomorrow.
Nebraska Career Connections
Do you know what you want to be when you grow up? Within Nebraska Career Connections there are interest inventories and buckets of information about being informed about the different career clusters you could find yourself working within someday. I am working on setting up a time for all students to take these inventories, however, if you would like to set up an account before I get a chance to work directly with you, please step into my office for account set up information!
Sophomore Career Day is Tuesday, October 20!
Last spring, class of 2018 registered for 2015 Career Day which will take place on Tuesday, October 20 at Wayne State College in Wayne, NE. Students will get to listen to an inspirational keynote speaker about life and careers and then venture off to career sessions which they indicated interest in last spring. Registration and lunch for this event will be paid for by Randolph High School. Students are expected to dress well (jeans with no holes, nice shirt, comfortable walking shoes since you will be walking all over campus).
Freshman Career Day is coming this spring!
In March, the Freshman will also get to live their own Career day at Northeast Community College. More details about this event will come later!
As your school counselor. . .
A big part of my job in the high school is helping you navigate your way to give you the best possible game plan for after high school. However, I am also here for any academic struggles and social/emotional struggles. Please keep in my mind that I honor confidentiality in that anything you tell me stays private unless it is ok with you that I discuss the matter with someone else or if someone is hurting you, you want to hurt someone, or if you want to hurt yourself. My job is to help keep everyone safe and help them be the best they can be.
