This week in reading students worked on comparing and contrasting stories with similar themes. We wrote a compare and contrast essay and looked at the story elements of each story.
Writing
During writing this week students worked on revising and editing their personal narratives. We also focused on identifying and correcting fragments and run-ons.
Math
This week students practiced solving equations using mental math and the properties of multiplication. We also started to review for our chapter test which will be next Wednesday. Students should complete the Chapter 2 Extra practice (pp 47-48) in their Math Workbook.
Science
This week we read about various plants and their unique structures that help them survive. We finished designing our "Super Plants" and described their external features. We learned tons of interesting facts and the importance of recycling on our field trip to the Emmet County Transfer Station.
Social Studies
In social studies this week we worked on comparing and contrasting the urban and rural areas of the Northeast region. We also learned how to read a population density map and chart.
Next week we will be reading the story, "Flat Stanley." Students will be writing a letter to a friend or family member and mail Flat Stanley to them for a visit. There is a letter in your child's Friday folder about the activity. There is also an index card attached for you to write the name and address of someone your family knows who would love to have Flat Stanley come visit.
