The Eagle Express
A newsletter for families and friends of Athens Elementary!
January 8, 2018
A Note from Ms. Davis
Dear Families,
The new year at Athens Elementary promises to be busy with the business of learning! Our teachers started out with a work day in their classrooms and planning with their teams. Then, on Thursday, we worked within our OneAthens Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) with peers from across our district studying learning targets and success criteria. On Friday, our entire faculty participated in a code.org workshop led by Dr. Jeff Gray from the University of Alabama.
As we begin to build our library of computer science resources, we are sponsoring a Reading for Education fundraiser from Jan. 8 to Jan. 16. It's an easy way to raise funds for robotics. We receive money for every complete booklet that we turn in and even more money if your family members order reading materials. More information is available at www.rfe.net/video.
In preparation for our computer science academy, the advisory council will meet later this week and in February there will be a community meeting updating everyone on the progress of each of the academies.
If I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to call or come by.
Sincerely,
Cindy Davis,
Principal
