Math
This week in math, we continued reading the time. Students were able to read and write times a quarter past the hour on analog and digital clocks. They were also introduced to the notation a.m. to describe the time between midnight and midday and p.m. to describe time between midday and midnight. They worked with times in five-minute intervals past the hour. Next week, they’re going to represent, compare, decompose, and write three-digit numbers with zeros and teens, such as 504 and 517. The newsletter for module 5 has more examples of what your child is going to learn.
Scoot Game: Students rotated to different tables, and they had to read the analog clock and recorded on their sheet. They loved it and were engaged the entire time!
Science
This week in Science we have been observing the phases of the moon. In addition, we have also been learning about the stars. We have learned about the constellations, colors and sizes of stars! This moon unit has been fun! Here are the essential questions we answered this week.
1. Does the night sky always look the same? What things change?
2. How does the appearance of the Moon change during the month?
3. Why does the Moon appear to change?
