Better Together
Weekly Message
Good Afternoon Evers Staff!
We have completed seven weeks of school and we are getting close to completing the 1st 9wks of 2020-2021 next week. Without a doubt, our teachers and staff continue to work together so that our kids can continue to have a great learning experience regardless of the setting. Virtual teaching is new in our practice, however, our constant will remain the same: to ensure our kids learn and that we continue to care for them!
Further below (PDF), I will be providing staff with campus operational reminders about campus cleaning. Please ensure that you review, and as an Evers Team, it will be important that we do not get relaxed with social distancing, washing our hands or cleaning frequently touched surfaces in our classrooms. We will continue to support our students with this as well.
I want to thank all of our Evers teachers and staff for your commitment in welcoming our students into your classrooms as early as 7:15 a.m. At the beginning of the year, our leadership team felt the need to start this way in order to better monitor our students due to COVID19. Ms. Maggio and I will be getting in touch with grade level team leaders to discuss moving into a shared morning duty so that certified staff can reduce the amount of duty days during the week. We will continue to be on duty each day at 7:15 a.m. until October 21 (Wednesday) since another 130 students will start their in-person learning that week.
We will be emailing teams with updates so that we can plan our updated morning duty schedule starting (Thursday) October 22nd. Going back to duty once a week will probably not happen anytime soon. Please know that our goal is to minimize hallway traffic as well as to minimize as much as we can person to person contact.
The notion of Better Together is about supporting, motivating, celebrating and encouraging one another. I continue to see this as you meet with your teams during planning or when you share your input with Liz and myself. It is evident that it also transfers into our classrooms! Thank you for teaching and leading! We will continue to be Better Together! Have a great week.- Talia
Substitutes
REMEMBER to also:
-Communicate with your team in case a substitute does not pick up. Admin team's last resort is to split classes. We will do our best to provide coverage, however, in 2019-2020, our daily average for staff absences was 5-7 staff members out daily. Monday and Friday was usually higher.
-Teachers will communicate with families that virtual students will either watch a recorded lesson or will join another virtual classroom. In-Person students will work with the substitute if there is one available. Remember that not all substitutes are familiar with Schoology or they have had very limited exposure. This will be something we will work on evaluating for better substitute procedures.
