Message from the Elliot Eisner SIG Chair
It was a pleasure to see all of you who attended AERA this year. Eisner SIG presenters in New York included:
Sarah Anne Eckert, The Pennsylvania State University
David A. Gamson, The Pennsylvania State University
Tine Sophie Proitz, University of Southeast Norway
Andreas Nordin, Linnaeus University
Michelle Zoss, Georgia State University
Sara Clarke-Vivier, Washington College
Tara Meister, University of Denver
Richard E. Siegesmund, Northern Illinois University
Natalie LeBlanc, The University of British Columbia
Alison Shields, The University of Victoria
Nel Noddings, Stanford University
Jennifer Alice Wicks, Concordia University
I also wanted to add a special thanks to Robert B. Donmoyer, University of San Diego and Stephen J. Thornton, University of South Florida, Tampa for serving as session discussants. Our sessions were well attended and engaging. Thanks also goes to Nel Noddings for serving as our keynote speaker at the SIG business meeting to discuss ways of reducing contemporary social polarization.
Appreciation also goes to our leadership team: Jodie Wilson, Tammy Cline, Aaron Zimmerman, and Derek Gottlieb. Special thanks to Derek for agreeing to serve as our Program Chair for 2018-2019. The leadership team also wants to know what you think! We are working on the question of what makes the Eisner SIG distinct as an organization. Yes, the Eisner SIG has more fun than any other AERA SIG, but we hope you have other reasons for belonging as well. So we will be reaching out to get your views.
Finally, it is not too early to be thinking about Toronto and the next AERA annual meeting. Our SIG is allocated sessions based on the number of submissions that we receive. The theme for Toronto’s meeting is: Leveraging Education Research in a “Post-Truth” Era: Multimodal Narratives to Democratize Evidence. Our SIG can take advantage of this theme because Eisner was centrally concerned with such questions as: What counts as evidence? What counts as research? And, how do we represent our findings in ways that produce useable knowledge? Not only is this a wonderful opportunity for established scholars, but also as a way to involve graduate students in AERA as well. We are a graduate student-friendly SIG!

It was terrific to see many of you in New York! As we begin to turn our attention to next year's meeting in Toronto, we invite you to consider signing up to be a volunteer reviewer.
consideration and continued support. If you are selected to review, you will be notified in early June.
