skipping workshops
On Tuesday we welcomed Dan into school to lead all children from Reception to Year 6 in skipping workshops. The children had a great time and Dan was really impressed with the children. "What a lovely school you have", he said, "The children are so enthusiastic". We have bought some more skipping ropes for breaktimes and Dan is returning in the Summer Term to train an elite team of 'skippers' and to teach other classes a range of energetic playground games.
karate
On Wednesday we were super proud to welcome back Sensei James Scanlon, 3rd Dan. James is another one of our highly successful ex-pupils who now runs the JS Karate Academy in Littlethorpe, Thirsk, Boroughbridge, Crakehall and Northallerton. Sensei James has been training for 15 years and has competed at regional, national and international level. Sensei James has competed for England as part of the junior male team kata, at the junior and cadet European championships in Turkey, 2013. James is a national youth coach and with all his teaching, training and competition experience the JS Karate Academy is one of the best karate clubs in the North Yorkshire area. If you are interested in joining one of these clubs then you can contact James at jskarateacademy@gmail.com. Look out for fliers in book bags next week.

Five Ways to Wellbeing
In classes this week we have been discussing and promoting the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing'.
The 'Five Ways to Wellbeing' are a wellbeing equivalent of ‘five fruit and vegetables a day’. It is recommended that individuals build the Five Ways (which are described in the video below) into their daily lives to improve their wellbeing. We recommend these to children and adults.
They will make you feel good and feeling good about yourself and others is a really important part of being healthy.
St Cuthbert's day
Our school stands on the site of the monastery where St Cuthbert acted as ‘Guestmaster’. We proudly continue welcoming visitors to our school in the friendly manner of St Cuthbert and annually celebrate St Cuthbert’s Day. On Tuesday we marked St Cuthbert's Day with worship held around the stone cross on the school field. Thank you Canon Ailsa who led our worship.
Canon Ailsa also led worship on Friday and talked to the children about the events of Palm Sunday. Every child was given a palm cross and we hope that they will be looked after until Ash Wednesday 2019.
Parents and friends are invited to join the school at our annual Easter Service next Wednesday at 11am.
