News from Fourth Grade
Hello Panther Families,
We have been quite busy recently in 4th grade! This quarter showed our research skills with our biography cubes. Students chose an important woman to study in honor of Women’s History Month. We learned about lots of famous scientists, explorers, activists and more, such as Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, and Marie Curie! We also showed our new science knowledge with our biome dioramas! Students researched a specific biome and created a diorama to show important animals and plants, the geography, and climate of that biome. We look forward to expanding our research skills in Quarter 4 with our exhibition projects on the States!
Now, for the most exciting news…. We hatched chickens! We decided to hatch chickens to go along with our science unit on biomes and animal classification/growth. We had 5 little chickens hatch- Sunny, Cher, Nugget, April, and Marjorie! Our students really enjoyed seeing the changes in the eggs, and eventually seeing them hatch. We also got to enjoy watching them for a bit before they went home with Ms. Cindy!
As we head into April break, we hope you all get the chance to relax and enjoy your time off. It is important to take the time to rest your body and your brain. Learning can be hard work, but it is important work! Take the time to rest and rejuvenate, and we can’t wait to see all the learning happening in Quarter 4 at PES!
Best wishes,
The 4th grade team
Have a great week!

Well-Being Weekly, Volume 3
Parents and caregivers: Take care of yourself
Taking care of yourself looks like:
Asking for help when you need it: Friends and family can often help, don’t be afraid to ask them to help with your child or children for a bit if you need a time out or time away. You could always return the favor when they are in need.
Don’t struggle alone: If things are getting you down, it’s important to recognize this. Talk to someone you trust and see what they think. Many people go on struggling with very difficult situations because they feel they should be able to cope and don’t deserve any help. YOU deserve help.
Take time for yourself: It’s easy to say take some time for yourself but in reality this may not feel possible. You might be too busy, exhausted or hard up for exercise or hobbies. But even a night in with a friend, catching up on your favorite show or having your favorite dinner can help.
Don’t blame yourself: If your child is having problems, don’t be too hard on yourself or blame yourself. Although it can be upsetting and worrying if your child is having a hard time, and it makes your relationship with them feel more stressful, you are not a bad parent. Children often take it out on those closest to them, so you might be feeling the effect of their very powerful emotions.
You are doing everything you can: If you had a difficult time growing up yourself, or struggle with mental health concerns, it can be very worrying to think that the same thing might happen to your child. But the love and care you show them and the fact that you are trying to help will protect against this. Getting help for them and perhaps for yourself too can give them the best chance of feeling better.
Reach out your doctor: Go to the doctor if things are really getting on top of you. Asking for some support from your doctor or a referral to a counselling service is a sign of strength. You can’t help your child if you are not being supported yourself. Some people worry their parenting will be judged if they are seeking help when in fact receiving the support you need can empower you to be a better parent.

Ride Your Bike at Recess Event
The Ride at Recess event was a resounding success, with over 120 kids having their bikes, scooters, and helmets checked for safety. None of this would have been possible without the invaluable support of our dedicated volunteers. Taylor Clark, Ryan Schock, and Matt from S and W Sports in Concord meticulously inspected each bike, ensuring the condition of tires, brakes, seat height, and chains. Chief Collins and Officer Boldoc from the Pittsfield Police Department diligently checked helmet fittings and generously provided spare helmets. Special recognition goes to our school nurse, Laurie Clar, who surpassed her daily bandage quota with flying colors! Witnessing the joy and excitement of the kids as they rode around was truly heartwarming. Here's to the beginning of a safe riding season. Remember, safety first—keep those helmets securely fastened!
