Sixth Grade Newsletter
November 15, 2015
Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for attending Parent-Teacher Conferences. It was great to discuss our students and their progress. The trimester ends this Friday.
English
We are working on a mentor text called "The All-American Slurp." Students have several writing invitations to choose from. A finished writing piece is due Tuesday, November 24. We will also have a vocabulary and grammar quiz that day. Students can access all the necessary information in Edmodo, and they also received a printed page.
Students can re-take assessments as necessary.
Social Studies
We are having fun learning how a basketball that originally came from Japan washed upon the shores of Alaska. Ask your child about this story! The geography behind it is amazing! Homework is assigned on Edmodo each Monday, and due on Thursday. Students have many ways to access this homework- with or without internet. So if their internet isn't working, they still have the capability of doing their homework.
Math
This week begins the last week of the marking period. Students should turn in all missing work before the end of the week. Students will begin this week learning about algebraic expressions. Next, students will work on the concept: Order of Operations. On Thursday, there will be a formative assessment over expressions and order of operations. Students will end the week learning about the distributive property.
Science
We are wrapping up our Ecosystem Unit and we will begin reviewing for the unit test at the end of the week. The test will be on 11-17-15.
