March 18, 2018 Update
SNOW DAY USAGE UPDATE
I would like to take this opportunity to verify our current school calendar with respect to storm day usage. Though this may be premature given the long range forecast for next week, I believe it is important to clearly identify where we are so that we can all plan accordingly.
As you know, each year when the school calendar is developed, we build in an additional five days for the purpose of accounting for potential school cancellations. Currently, we have used nine cancellation days, pushing our last day of school out to Tuesday, June 26th.
No public school district can extend the school year into July, due to the inability to expend funds appropriated in one fiscal year into the next. Some districts currently have Friday, June 29th as their last school day, with no ability to cancel school for any reason, without a plan to make up days. These districts need to create a “safety net” in the event that they need to cancel at some point between now and the last day of school. As such, they are beginning discussions about eliminating Good Friday as a day off or about using one or two days of April Vacation to make up for already cancelled school days.
This is not the case for us. At this time, we do not need to consider the Good Friday / April Vacation option, unless we are forced to cancel school three more times in the next few weeks. Please know, should it become necessary to cancel school again we will continue to add days on to June 26th.
I appreciate that people are frustrated with the snow and that some may desire options on how to better handle storm days in the future. In an effort to better understand the problem, I looked at the trend of our last five years of school cancellations:
2014 – 4 Cancellations
2015 – 4 Cancellations
2016 – 3 Cancellations
2017 – 5 Cancellations
2018 – 9 Cancellations
Clearly, this year is an anomaly and not a trend. Moving forward, we will continue to develop our school calendar with five (5) snow / emergency days.
I hope this email helps clarify things. Thank you again for your patience and flexibility.
Thanks,
Dr. Flanagan

2018-19 Before & After School Registration Open
This program is currently staffed by our own personnel and provides a safe, stimulating environment for children. Activities include games, arts and crafts, sports, music, reading, and exploration time in an effort to meet the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of your child.
Hours
The program operates on regularly scheduled school days following the school calendar. It is not open on snow days, holidays, or school vacation weeks. The Before School Program operates from 7:00am - 8:35am. After school runs from 3:08pm - 6:00pm. This ensures continuous programming for children from as early as 7:00am to as late as 6:00pm. Parents may pick up their children anytime before the close of the session.
