Centennial's Newsday Tuesday
Centennial Elementary Families' Weekly Newsletter 9/7/21
A Note from the Principal
Last week, our classroom teacher teams met in their PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) to learn more about their students and to determine their action steps for the instructional work their teams will do this year in response to the beginning of year data they are now receiving for their students. We are committed to staying focused on offering your children an excellent education and are determined to keep our eyes, minds and hearts set on holding things as steady as possible (hence our theme "Back to Basics") this year!
I'm keeping this week's newsletter brief as I'm re-sharing (below) important information that all EPS families and staff received last week in regards to new COVID mitigation protocols that will go into place beginning tomorrow.
We at Centennial are doing our best to keep up with the research and best practices to ensure our students are receiving the best we can give them instructionally, socially, emotionally and physically. We love your children, are wishing everyone well in this time, respect you and your ability to determine the best choice for your child(ren) at this time. We remain thankful for your continued support and partnership.
We want all of our students to be well and learning every day, because their futures are worth our sacrifice and efforts.
With appreciation and kind regards,
Ellie Webb, Principal
New COVID Mitigation Protocol Goes into Effect Tomorrow, Sept. 8, as Attempt to Keep Children Learning in School
Masks: "A mask requirement will go into effect September 8 for all staff and students in grades 1-12 and apply to all indoor settings, including schools, buses, and district offices. PK-K students will wear their masks when traveling throughout the building and when sitting in groups. Like last year, students will be given frequent opportunities for mask breaks throughout the day. The masking requirement will remain in effect until October 13, the end of the first nine weeks. At that time, this decision will be reviewed. Why masks? Masks will help us to obtain our goal of keeping students and teachers in class. When there is a close contact exposure the radius of quarantines decreases from 6 feet to 3 feet if both parties are wearing masks. This reduces our quarantines and allows more students to stay in school."
To see the above explanation and more EPS COVID protocols, please refer to the EPS website here.
How may I "opt out" my child(ren) from wearing a mask at school?
Whatever your reason may be for preferring that your child(ren) not wear (a) mask(s) at this time, Edmond Public Schools and Centennial Elementary staff support your right to choose what is best for your child(ren) and family in this very challenging situation.
- To opt out, simply complete this form and email it to: Centennial.ElementarySchool@edmondschools.net

Centennial Families are Simply THE BEST!
Families, our PALS and PTO members are welcome and valuable members of the Centennial Family!
To honor our district's safety protocols, we request that volunteer activities at this time take place in the PALS & PTO rooms on our campus. Thank you for understanding and know that, just like you, we can't wait until we may welcome precious and valued family members in more frequently! For more information about these safety protocols, please click here.
In Case of Absence
Families, did you know that you may call 405-726-4699 any time to leave a message regarding your student's need to be absent or tardy? We encourage this so the phone lines aren’t tied up in the morning during AM drop off. If a family accidentally forgets to call on when a student is absent, an automated call goes out at 10:30 to families who have not yet reported their child is absent as a reminder. Thank you!
