60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT
Our fall athletics season featured some very memorable moments and accomplishments by all of our sports. On this week’s episode, we celebrate both Brian Wyler (Cross Country) and our Lady Mustangs Soccer Team. Brian finished 27th overall at the recent State Cross Country Meet. Girls soccer made it to the ‘Elite 8’, where they unfortunately were defeated by Perrysburg 4-3 in penalty kicks, after a scoreless regulation and two overtime periods. Click HERE for our student athletes and coaches reflections on these seasons.
SHS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN NASA YOUNG ASTRONAUTS COMPETITION
A team of seven Polaris Satellite Ambassadors competed in the recent “2017 NASA Young Astronauts Day” competition. This year's team included three Strongsville High School students - Sean Friedman, Glenn Weber, and Gavin Kaiser. The overall competition had several challenges for the students to compete against one another. The Polaris team placed 2nd overall out of 9 teams. Sean, Glenn, and Gavin placed 3rd in their challenge, which consisted of building a SCaN Network and learning how to utilize the network to communicate in space.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. BRENDA ROSALA, EXECUTIVE SECRETARY - CURRICULUM DEPARTMENT
In this week’s Mustang Spotlight is Mrs. Brenda Rosala, Executive Secretary in our Curriculum Department. Mrs. Rosala has been a member of our District team for the past 8 years. Her family has also been a part of the Strongsville community for 35 years, with all of her children graduating from Strongsville High School.
Mrs. Rosala cares deeply about her job and supporting the teachers and staff on a daily basis. “The most important part of my job is ensuring teachers have the materials they need to be successful in the classroom. The teachers bring the dedication and the knowledge, and we provide the details. Whether it be textbooks, supplemental materials, manipulatives, access to online programs, or professional development workshops, I try to maintain organized and efficient processes to help meet these needs in a cost-effective way.”
She adds, “I love being part of a hard-working team with a unified goal. I work with wonderful people at the department level, building level, and district level and appreciate the cooperation and interactions that occur between these teams.”
Thank you Mrs. Rosala for your attention to detail and continually making sure that our teachers and staff have the necessary resources to provide positive learning environments for our students.

HONORING OUR VETERANS THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT
We salute and recognize all of the veterans who have served, and continue to serve, our country. Each school in our District planned unique ways this week to honor this special group of individuals. Thank you to all veterans for your service to our country.
SCS RECEIVES $10,000 DONATION FROM STAPLES & INTEL
Strongsville City Schools has received a $10,000 donation from Staples and Intel. This summer, Strongsville’s local Staples store participated in a national competition called Score with Intel® Core™. As part of this competition, electronics retailers from across the country competed head to head. Store sales representatives were asked to expand their knowledge about Intel® technology and the devices they sell. The winning stores then selected a local school to receive a donation from Intel on their behalf. In the national competition, Strongsville Staples finished in 2nd place and earned the $10,000 prize.
SHS STUDENTS ARE PART OF FOX 8 ‘CLASS OF 2020’ PROJECT

This year, a 2017 Chevy Trax was generously donated for the car raffle fundraiser by Serpentini Chevrolet of Strongsville. The winning raffle ticket was drawn at halftime of the final home game this season for the Strongsville Mustangs varsity football team. Elaine Hamrick was this year’s lucky winner.
Strongsville student-athletes and members of the Athletic Boosters group sold 2,532 tickets at $20 per ticket to raise the more than $50,000 for Strongsville City Schools athletics. With just 15 team members selling tickets, Strongsville High School Girls Basketball sold the most tickets of any group (310 tickets). Congratulations to Elaine and thank you to all who supported this year’s car raffle fundraiser!
