7th Grade Finance Park Field Trip Information
On April 3, 4, and 5, 7th graders will participate in their Junior Achievement Finance Park Field Trip.
- What: Students will leave behind life as a student and become an adult with a career, family, salary, credit score, and financial obligations in the fully digital, innovative, hands-on environment of JA Finance Park.
- How: At JA Finance Park, students use tablets to make decisions that are designed to prepare them for the future. They consider budget items such as buying a home, purchasing and maintaining a vehicle, budgeting for student loans and health care expenses, and choosing child care.
- When: Your child will be assigned to attend one of the three dates mentioned above.
- Cost: There is no cost for this field trip.
Permission slips will be distributed in your child’s Social Studies class on March 8. Permission slips are due back to your child's Social Studies teacher by Wednesday, March 20. Field Trip Form
Updates On the Summer: No Summer School
- Due to MCPS budget cuts, there will not be a free summer school program at Eastern Middle School this year. The county will host Extended School Year (ESY) services for eligible students with an IEP serviced through the SESES Program. You will be notified if you are a part of the program.
- We are also brainstorming to determine if we will provide a paid institute for specific programming at hosted at Eastern. However there will be no Math and English Language Arts intervention or enrichment programs as offered in previous years. Stay Tuned for Updates!
We will continue to provide updates on local camps and programs as they are shared. Updates will be shared under Parent Resources.
Outdoor Ed & Reptile Man: Thank you to our PTSA!
Thank you to the PTSA for sponsoring The Reptile Man during Outdoor Education. Although the experience is expensive, we appreciate that you work hard to provide this unique opportunity while our 6th graders are away in the great outdoors. They absolutely love it!
The EagleNation Math Team at Blair HS!
- 25 members of the Eastern Math Team participated in 5 teams of 5 at the Montgomery Blair Math Tournament last Saturday.
- 320 students participated in the tournament, so we were well represented!
- It was also great to see former Eastern students who are in the Blair STEM program and members of the Blair Math Team, who coordinated the event.

Minority Scholars Retreat
EagleNation Minority Scholars participated in workshops at Kennedy HS and were reportedly one of the loudest middle schools during the school roll call. Rewriting the Narrative was the theme this year. Thanks to Ms. Short for being with our students this weekend as they engaged in workshops surrounding leadership, identity and being the light within and outside of their schools.
