The More You Know...May 2020
FROM YOUR FRIENDLY SCHOOL COUNSELORS
In tranquil garden closes,
And soft yet regal is her sway
Among the springtide roses.

NATURAL RESOURCES: FORESTRY
The 2019-2020 Center For Technology Forestry & Horticulture Program recently completed their Timber Harvest Unit.
The program executes the forest use plan at the Essex Tree Farm Soccer Complex. This plan focuses on timber stand improvement, invasive species identification and management, and eventual restoration of what would naturally be a native hardwood forest. The property is currently mostly conifer plantation.
Throughout the year, the Forestry & Horticulture Program investigates value added agricultural products, greenhouse management, orienteering (students use a map and compass to navigate through the unfamiliar woods), orchard management, maple sugar production, equipment operation and much, much more! It's exciting, fun, and educational to be in Natural Resources-Forestry!
Have questions, or for more information, please contact the program instructor, Brian Japp bjapp@ewsd.org
NATURAL RESOURCES: MECHANICAL
Students from the NRM Program spent the year learning many valuable skills such as Welding, Metal Fabrication, Heavy Equipment Operation and Small Engine Repair! As a final project the students each used the skills they learned to create one of a kind works of art! The Weathervanes they created show the unique personalities of each student and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience! We had an amazing year and look forward to getting back next year.
Have questions or for more information, please contact the program instructor, (Robert) Tyler Siddens rsiddens@ewsd.org.
