Organelles
The different type of organelles
Description: It's not a solid structure. It's made of smaller molecules.
Function: Holds cell pieces inside and only let some things in and out.
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Cell Wall
Description: Made of specialized sugars called cellulose.
Function: Provides a frame to protect the plant cell to survive.
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both.
Cytoplasm
Description: A filling fluid in the mitchondria
Function: Gives the cell it's shape
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Nucleus
Description: Somewhere in the middle of the cytoplasm
Function: Helps control eating, movement, & reproductive.
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Nuclear Membrane
Description: Double-layered membrane surrounding the nucleus
Function: Keeps DNA inside the nucleus to protect it from surrounding substances.
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Nucleolus
Description: A round body located inside the nucleus
Function: Makes protein inside the cell
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Plant cells
Centrioles
Description: A small set of the of microtubules arranged in a specific way
Function: Help cell divide when necessary
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Animal
Chromatin
Description: Organized into several levels
Function: The combination of DNA and proteins that make up the contents of the nucleus of a cell
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Plant
Ribosomes
Description: Found inside the molecules
Function: Deciphers what kind of protein it should make.
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Golgi Apparatus
Description: It's flattened stacks of membrane
Function: Works to package, tag, and ship protein to it designation
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Description: A network of membranes found throughout the cell and connected to the nucleus
Function: Functions as a manufacturing and packaging system
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Mitochondria
Description: Outer membrane, inner membrane folds
Function: Provides power/energy
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Chloroplast
Description: Outer membrane inner membrane surround the stroma cell
Function: Aids in photosynthesis
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Plant
Lysosomes
Description: Specialized vesicle (helps transmit stuff in and out of the cell) that holds a variety of enzymes
Function: Digest things
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Animals
Peroxisomes
Description: Small Vesicles, single membrane with digestive enzymes
Function: Absorb nutrients play as a part in the way organisms digest alcohol.
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Vacuole
Description: Membrane surrounds a mass of fluid- nutrients or waste products
Function: Store foods or any variety of nutrients, stores waste
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
Cytoskeleton
Description: Thick, strong spirals of thousands of subunits
Function: Cell shape, determines shape of the cell
Plant cell, animal cell, or both: Both
