Principal's Message
We hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! There are several fun things happening over the next few weeks, including Ohio Military Spirit Week, Popsicles with The Principals, and a schoolwide Coin Drive. Next week, our 3rd grade students will take the Ohio State Test in ELA followed by the Math OST in May.
As always, we encourage communication between you and your child's teacher or the administration with any questions or concerns you may have. Be sure to download the HLSD Mobile app for quick access to updates regarding school events and more. Feel free to stop by or contact us at 491-8044 if there is anything you need.
Extra Recess with the Principals
Students have had an opportunity to purchase a, "Recess with the Principals" pass from the Ranger Store. They paid $100 of their own Money to do so! We held this Friday, March 15th on the BIG Playground! Students and staff had a blast!

The week of April 15-19 is designated as Ohio Military Child Spirit week and as a district we are participating in the event. Below is a list of dress up days. Our Busy Classrooms!
Mrs. Watts Class
Students started learning about the Arctic Habitat in Mrs. Watt's classroom. They learned that some animals, such as a walrus and polar bear, have something called blubber to keep them warm. Blubber protects the animal from cold weather and also keeps the heat inside the animal as well. Students learned about this concept by touching ice cubes without the blubber protection and again with the simulated blubber protection and found that blubber does an excellent job keeping an animal warm during the frigid temperatures in the Arctic!
PE with Mrs. Archer
Student's got to play a version of the game "Rock, Paper, Scissors". A new challenge was just on social media about a year and half ago. They can play this game with friends in the neighborhood or even at recess!
1st Grade Habitats
Miss. Courter and Miss. Edgington's class have been learning about Habitats in Knowledge. The students took the lesson outside to study the Habitat of the playground. They wrote the different types of shelter, food/water sources, and animals and plants that live on the playground.
2nd Grade- Human Body Unit
Miss WoJo's class ended their Human Body unit by Interviewing a Physician Assistant (Miss Wojo's sister!). Students got to ask questions and learn new things about the human body!

Nancy Gibson
Grade: 2nd
Years Teaching: This is my 16th year
Most Memorable Teaching Moment: When a former student showed up at school one afternoon and asked me to hand him his diploma.
Favorite Teacher Growing Up: My favorite teacher growing up was my third grade teacher, Mrs. Boring. It always seemed to me like she was trying to prove her name wrong because she was the most exciting, fun teacher in the building! She just did so many projects and taught us so much fun stuff. I always felt cared about and seen in her class.
Favorite Things (Favorite Snack): Diet coke... does Diet coke count as a snack? If not, then chex mix.
Fun Fact: I love to crochet! I've made a LOT of "amigurumi" (stuffed animals) and I'm currently working on a HUGE blanket for my aunt.
Natalie Wilging
Grade: 2nd
Years Teaching: 2 years
Most Memorable Teaching Moment: My most memorable teaching moment happened when I was not teaching, but over winter break this year. I had a student's parent email me on Christmas day and just tell me how her child was missing school over break. She said this meant a lot to her as her student had never expressed missing an educator over a school break before. This warmed my heart and made me remember my why of teaching- to make those littles feel loved!!!
Favorite Teacher Growing Up:My favorite teacher was my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Miu. She made everything we did fun through different projects, competitions, and activities. I remember having such a genuine love for learning everything in her class, even the things I did not particularly like!
Favorite Things (Favorite Snack):spicy sweet chili doritos
Fun Fact: I can touch my tongue to my nose!

Girls on the Run (GOTR)
We had a great start to Girls on the Run (GOTR)! Ms. Wojo, Ms. Gambaccini and Mrs. Juarez created a welcoming environment and energized the girls to begin their 10 weeks of team-building activities. Relationships are being built and the girls are getting a workout with every session! We are excited to see them learn and grow throughout this process.

Aide Appreciation Day
On Friday, April 5th, we celebrated Aide Appreciation Day. Thank you for all you do!
From The Clinic
Do you have a new phone number? Have you had a recent move, a change in your work number or have any different emergency contacts? Take time to review and update any needed changes of information in FinalForms. For your child's safety and for emergencies the school needs to have updated contact information. If you or any emergency contacts have had any changes in addresses, phone numbers or emails please be certain your child's account is current. Emergency contacts are called when we are unable to get in direct communication with parents/guardians in times of need or emergency. Students are not to have prescription medication on their person. As a school district we are guided by Ohio Revised Code and written permission from the prescriber and parent is required for any prescription medication. This is required by law for your student to receive any type of prescription medication and/or prescribed treatments while at school or any school- sponsored functions.

Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
