Gifted Social Studies Weekly Update
Week of 9/23-9/27
Breaking News
The Constitution is Coming! Starting next week, we will study the Constitution and events that led up to it. We expect to finish with the unit before Thanksgiving.
Wanted: Class Supplies It’s that time of year when we have a lot of sneezing, coughing, and runny noses in the classroom. We could use some paper towels, disinfectant wipes, and tissues so the kids don’t spread germs. Thanks!
Upcoming Due Dates
Friday, 9/27: We are still collecting the signature slip of the National History Day parent letter. (Please keep the letter itself for your own information.) It was due on Friday but field trips may have interfered with some of them getting turned in. Please ask your students about the letter if you haven’t seen it.
Thursday, 10/3: Students will turn in their National History Day project contract with their topic and partners (if applicable). Students and Parents should both sign. The back of the blue letter has information to help your student make these decisions for the project.
Classroom Happenings
It was a busy week! After introducing National History Day last week, students began exploring NHD.org to see the outstanding example projects from previous years. We were all really impressed by the middle schoolers behind those projects.
We finished up our field trips to the Missouri Historical Society Library and Research Center. Thank you to all of you volunteered to go along with us. We learned about researching with primary sources from using old maps and city directories. Ask the kids about what they learned about the Streets of St. Louis.
ETC
Thanks to those of you who completed the communication survey we emailed a couple weeks ago. We hope that more of you are finding our weekly updates. And if you wonder what you missed, you can go to our webpage to catch up on the archived updates.
