Counselors Corner
Dear Parents,
Dear Brimfield Families,
In today's rapidly changing world, one of the most valuable gifts we can give our children is the ability to bounce back from challenges and adversity. Resilience is a skill that empowers them to navigate life's ups and downs with grace and strength. This month, we want to explore the importance of building resilience in our children and share some practical strategies to help them develop this crucial life skill.
Embrace Failure as a Learning Opportunity:
Encourage your child to view failure not as a setback, but as an opportunity for growth. Share stories of your own experiences and how you learned from them. Remind them that every mistake is a chance to learn, adapt, and become stronger.
Foster a Growth Mindset:
Teach your child to see challenges as opportunities for growth rather than fixed limitations. Encourage them to embrace new experiences, take on challenges, and believe in their ability to learn and improve.
Encourage Problem-Solving Skills:
Provide opportunities for your child to tackle problems on their own. Guide them in finding solutions, but allow them the space to think critically and develop their problem-solving abilities. This fosters a sense of self-efficacy and confidence.
Validate Their Emotions:
It's important for children to know that it's okay to feel a wide range of emotions, including sadness, frustration, and anger. Help them understand that emotions are a natural part of being human, and provide them with healthy coping mechanisms.
Promote a Supportive Network:
Surrounding your child with a network of caring, supportive individuals is crucial. This includes family, friends, teachers, and mentors who can offer guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear when needed.
Set Realistic Expectations:
Help your child set achievable goals and celebrate their accomplishments, no matter how small. This fosters a sense of achievement and reinforces their belief in their abilities.
Encourage a Positive Inner Dialogue:
Teach your child to be their own cheerleader. Encourage positive self-talk and help them replace negative thoughts with affirming statements. This helps build inner strength and confidence.
Cultivate Mindfulness and Self-Care:
Encourage practices like mindfulness, meditation, and physical exercise. These activities help children connect with their inner selves, reduce stress, and build mental and emotional resilience.
Model Resilient Behavior:
Children often learn best by example. Demonstrate resilience in your own life, and share stories of how you've faced challenges and overcome them. Your experiences can serve as powerful lessons for your child.
Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection:
Emphasize that it's okay to make mistakes and that progress is more important than perfection. Recognize and celebrate their efforts, and let them know that you are proud of their determination and resilience.
By nurturing resilience in our children, we are providing them with a powerful tool that will serve them well throughout their lives. Together, let's support and encourage our children to face challenges head-on, knowing that they have the strength and resilience to overcome anything that comes their way.
Wishing you a season filled with growth and strength!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Kuzas

PBIS CORNER
What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports is an important part of the school environment to encourage positive behavior. There are clear expectations throughout the school that are taught consistently throughout the year. The four expectations promoted at Field Local Schools are:
Safe
Outstanding
Accountable
Respectful
When students do not respond to teaching of the building or classroom expectations, we will view it as an opportunity for re-teaching, not just negative consequences. Students still receive consequences for negative behavior. The goal of the consequence is to teach students so they will not repeat the negative behavior.
