Barrington Updates 3/3/24
Parent Placement Input Form
The placement form will be open until April 1st. This information will be valuable as we create class placements for the 2024/2025 school year. Here is the link: Parent Placement Input Form 24/25 School Year
5th Grade Families
Mark your calendar for March 12th from 7:00-8:00 @ Jones for an information night. They are encouraging your child to attend.
Read Across America Week
March 2nd kicks off Read Across America week, where schools all over the nation celebrate the joy of reading. At Barrington, reading is extra special this week, so each day different specialists will share a story on BTV! Students will hear stories read aloud by special area teachers, intervention specialists, reading specialists, and more! On Friday, we will wrap up the week with a reading-themed spirit day! Students are invited to dress up in clothes that remind them of their favorite places to read. For example, if your children love to read in bed at night, they might choose to wear pajamas to school on Friday! If your child loves to read over breaks, maybe a t-shirt from a vacation would be a fun representation of a favorite reading place.
District Calendar Updates
- Calendar updates
- Tuesday, March 19 - spring voting day - no school for students
Because many schools are used as polling locations, there is no school for students on voting days. - Monday, April 8 - solar eclipse - early release
For the first time since 1806, a total solar eclipse will be visible in Ohio at approximately 3 p.m. on April 8, 2024. To eliminate the safety concerns involved with students being dismissed during the eclipse, and to allow families to experience this historic event together, there will be an early dismissal of 1 p.m. for the elementary schools and 1:30 p.m. for the middle schools, high school and Burbank Early Childhood School. Thanks to the Upper Arlington Education Foundation, all UA Schools students and staff members will be receiving eclipse glasses through the district.

Note from the Nurse
Safety
Safety and security is a top priority in the Upper Arlington Schools. We make every effort to be prepared for every possible type of emergency. This involves a multi-layered approach to safety in our schools. This year we have been using state safety grant funds to upgrade security equipment like two-way radios and security cameras, including installing cameras on school buses. Remember that any type of safety concern, including potential bullying or harassment, can be reported through the STAY SAFE, SPEAK UP! reporting system, which is available on the district website and on every student iPad. For more information on safety measures, visit the Safety and Security page on the district website, or watch the safety update from the February 2024 Board of Education meeting.

The hUmAn Connection Festival
hUmAn Connection Festival - The hUmAn Connection Festival will be expanded to a 2-day event this year. The evening of March 6th will be an all-district community event for all ages. During the day of March 7th, UAHS students will lead an event for UAHS students and staff, only. Each session will feature interactive exhibits and cultural arts performances.
The linked Google Form is an application to host an exhibit during the March 6th celebration. This is ideal for K-8 students, PTOs, staff, and community groups. This form has an opening description of the event that provides more clarity and detail.
There is a separate Google Form for UAHS students to apply for an exhibit table. That form is available through the high school.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Denise Lutz (dlutz@uaschools.org) or Kristyn Anderson (kmanderson@uaschools.org).
Spring Break Food Support
The district is partnering with the Tri-Village Packers to support their Spring Break 2024 food distribution program. The Tri-Village Packers will distribute groceries to families with UA students for the days when school is not in session. The food will be provided at no cost to district families experiencing food insecurity who would benefit from additional food.
We know that spring break occurs during a season of religious and cultural holidays that impact dietary practices. Volunteers will try to honor any restrictions you share with us to support your nutritional needs while recognizing your obligations.
To sign up for this round of food distribution, please complete this form by March 1, 2024. Once registered, you will receive an order number allowing you to pick up your food at the Upper Arlington Senior Center on March 21, 2024, between 3:30 and 6 p.m. If you cannot pick up your food, arrangements can be made for delivery.
Please contact Kristyn Anderson in the district office with questions about this opportunity at kmanderson@uaschools.org.

During the month of April, families are invited to read Just Roll With It, a middle-grade graphic novel that focuses on themes surrounding mental wellness and belonging. On May 11, community members are invited to a celebration at Thompson Park from 12:00 - 2:00 PM featuring a discussion with the illustrator and author of Just Roll With It, Veronica Agarwal and Lee Durfey-Lavoie. For more information, please visit https://youbelongua.org.
Cafeteria VolunteersThe SignUpGenius has been updated through the end of the year. Please note that we have shortened the shifts by 30 minutes (now 11-12:30 PM). As a reminder, volunteers come to the school over lunch to help students navigate the line to buy school lunch, wipe down tables and help with lunch group turnover and composting, open containers from packed lunches, keep students (mostly) quiet, and help them throw items away. Click here for additional guidelines or here to sign up to volunteer.
Clown Around 2024
