Professional Musings
FYI
- Last year we tried to make two positive parent contacts a week. Let's continue this practice and see if we can make it 3! These "deposits" into a parent's emotional bank account can build trust, open communication, and a genuine belief in children. This can be an email, note, phone call, or comment on the daily report
- Tech update: The Chromebooks have been slightly delayed. They will arrive tomorrow afternoon to the conference room. Hope, Mark and Michelle will assist with deployment on Tuesday. . Devices can be used IN THE CASES and should not be removed.
- Checking that RUP and GAFE have been signed in Infosnap
- Making sure the fee has been paid
- Attaching the ID card
- Occurs 2-3 kids at a time and will occur in a two hour window by Michelle, Mark, and Hope . Please use the following schedule- LCE: 8:30-9:30 and LCD 9:30-10:30.
- You may send home draft books from last year at parent conferences

The Kingsport Chamber of Commerce is hosting an upcoming Dale Carnegie Employee Engagement Seminar Series. You may want to consider allowing some of your staff the opportunity to attend one or all of these exciting seminars focused on increasing your leadership effectiveness and your team's overall performance and engagement. The Dale Carnegie Employee Engagement Seminar Series is open to anyone so feel free to pass this along to colleagues and business contacts who may benefit as well!
The start of a new school year is a great time to make sure KCS has current address information on file. Please ask each employee to logon to Skyward, EMPLOYEE INFORMATION, PERSONAL INFORMATION, and ADDRESS to verify that information is up-to-date. Requests to change address or phone numbers can be made in Skyward. Why do all employees need to check on this? Because address information feeds multiple behind-the-scenes sites within KCS, it's important that it be correct in Skyward.
KCS Teacher Rosemary Smith Memorial Fund: The family is asking that "in lieu of flowers" a donation be made to honor Rosemary. The fund will be used specifically within the main foundation to help all teachers, their spouses, or any member of their family should they be in need. The fund will also help any patient with any type of brain cancer. The establishment of this fund was very important to Rosemary, and the Smith family is honored that her name and this foundation will go on for many years helping others. Thank you ahead of time for your tax-deductible donation. Here is the link.
From Dr. Potter for new teachers: We are planning a New Teacher Follow-Up on Thursday, 9/8, from 3:45-5:00. We are differentiating the timeframe based on attendance of the New Teacher Orientation on 7/22 (as some of you were not even hired at that point):
3:45-4:15 Dr. Ailshie will meet with ALL New Teachers
4:15-4:30 Question and Answer Opportunity with Veteran Teachers – optional participation for those of you who were in attendance on 7/22 (returning opportunity based on positive feedback from the NTO survey – thanks to all those who completed)
4:30-5:00 Curriculum & Instruction session
Please review the materials and resources available at the link below prior to 9/8 if you were not in attendance on 7/22 to receive the information first hand. If you have specific questions you would like to see answered on 9/8, please email them to me as soon as possible so I can make arrangements with the necessary people to be in attendance or consult with the necessary people to get an answer for you.
