CAMPUS CONNECTION
Rigor, Relevance and Relationships
SEPTEMBER EDITION
A Note from Executive Principal, Dave Knoche
After our brief encounter with winter, it sure is nice to be back into the 80-degree temperatures. In my opinion, this is the best time of the year for weather in Colorado. We are now officially past the first month of the craziest school year anyone has experienced. Even though we have had students on campus since August 17th, the campus feels quiet and is missing the energy levels that more students bring. Many times it is more challenging to teach a class of 5 than 25. We all want to get back to a regular school schedule because education without face to face interaction is challenging for all stakeholders. Larger traditional schools are bringing their students back to campus at 25% capacity. Knowing that, the logical question is, "when will we expand the number of students on campus?" In evaluating the upcoming weeks, it would not be feasible to bring students back on campus for two days a week before our October break. However, it does make sense to bring all hybrid students back on campus for two days per week after our October break.
We are creating a "return to normal schedule for on-campus" plan for all students who chose the hybrid option. I want to remind families that our educational model before COVID-19 has not previously focused on or promoted a full virtual educational model. We will cautiously and safely move toward our typical blended/hybrid model as we see improvement around COVID-19 as a state and county. The current level of full virtual options we provide is directly related to COVID-19 and the need for immunocompromised families. We believe that those families capable of coming back to campus will do so when appropriate. In November, we will re-survey families to evaluate their desired learning models in preparation for the second semester. As we continue to have more students on campus without transmissions or large quarantines, we will align our model to reflect the community data, the statewide mask order, and family needs. Be on the lookout for those detailed communications.
Additionally, you will be receiving information about the October Count and the importance of it. Please help us have a great October count with minimal distraction by supporting the requests we need of student counts.
Respectfully,
David Knoche
