Houston, TX- The Allen brothers, who had been busy scouting for land on which to build a speculative city, purchased 6,642 acres along the west bank of Buffalo Bayou, a muddy, meandering stream that lolled southward to the bustling port of Galveston, and named the city Houston.
Johnson Space Center- Established as the Manned Spacecraft Center (MSC) in 1961, the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center (JSC) named in honor of the late President, is responsible for the design, development, and operation of human space flight. For more than three decades, JSC has been the world leader in human space flight operations for NASA.
Caddo Lake State Park- This lake was the only natural lake in Texas until it was artificially dammed in the early 1900s when oil was found and for flood control in 1914. A new dam replaced the old one in 1971.
