Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 22nd May 2020
Friendship Messages from Year 2
Friendship messages from Year 1
Year 1 and year 2 friendship messages
Wow, the children in Key Stage 1 have done an amazing job with their wonderful friendship messages. As we don't have a newsletter next week, because of half term, it means we can have double the friendship messages this week. Don't they look great! Thanks to everyone for their support, the lovely photos and to Mrs McIlmurray and Mrs Beckett for putting them together. Super team work.
A MASSIVE THANK YOU TO MORRISONS
After mentioning difficulties in obtaining wipes and cleaning items, we received a huge amount of supplies that will really help us to keep surfaces and hands clean, particularly as we open the school to more children.
We then received a delivery of brand new books, art materials and items for the children to enjoy.
In addition, yesterday we were given chocolates and sweets to thank the forgotten key workers, from Angela at Morrisons and also Danielle, who personally delivered them. This really means a lot to us all.
From everyone at our school we would like to say thank you we really appreciate the generosity and kindness shown.

Oliver did this as his own thank you to the amazing NHS staff, he has family and a couple of friends who work in hospitals and he thought it might make them smile.
Jay made his boat using a shoe box, and he decided to wrap it in foil to make it waterproof so it float.

School Wider Opening Update
Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you are well and have managed to enjoy the recent warm weather that we have been blessed with.
It is very strange to be writing to you at the end of a half-term, not really knowing what exactly will happen when we return due to the current national situation.
As you are aware, we have been putting plans in place for the potential phased wider opening of the school to children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6. It is frustrating that at this point the government have not yet confirmed whether the five tests that they set have been met, so that we can move to stage 3 of the government’s alert levels.
The school does have a robust and thorough risk assessment in place and logistical plans for how we will operate when we welcome children back to their classes. There are, however, a number of factors which are out of our control such as the local R rate, the availability of testing and tracking, which will have a bearing on how safe it is to open up the school to more children.
Can I assure you that I am regularly communicating with all staff, governors, our senior education adviser from the Local Authority, health and safety advisers as well as accessing information from professional bodies, the diocese and the government to help us to make the right decisions for our school and families.
My understanding presently is that the government will update the country on the 28th May with further information on lifting the lockdown and how this will impact on schools.
As soon as we have the recommendation from the government, I will notify parents and carers via email regarding specific arrangements for the next-half term as per my last communication. Thank you so much for your understanding and patience at this time.
Mrs Rich has already been in contact with relevant families with regards to the booking system and potential changes for key worker children in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5. For these families we do wish to reiterate that the number of places available is limited to 20 and provision should only be accessed when it is essential and necessary and there is no appropriate adult at home.
If the wider opening of school is delayed, we will continue to provide care provision for children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 from June 1st onwards.
I know that there is a heightened level of commentary in the media about schools and parents. As mentioned in my last letter, we are all in the same storm but our boats can be very different. No parent should be made to feel guilty or ashamed for whatever decision they make regarding the education of their children; in situations like these compassion and understanding are so important.
Many thanks for your continued support and the well-wishes that we have received. They have been very much appreciated.
Have a lovely half-term, look after one another and keep safe.
Kind regards
Steven Holmes
