Comparative poetry analysis

Introduction
''Prayer to the Pacific'' and'' Ode to Enchanted Light'' are very well written poems that have ,a deep meaning but are easy to understand. I am comparing these poems in three ways- tone and word choice, figurative language, and structure and form.
Tone And Word Choice
First, tone and word choice in ''Prayer To The Pacific'' . the poets overall attitude in the poem is respectful. For example, in lines 13 and 14 she said " I return to you turquoise the red coral you sent us, sister spirit of the earth". She sounds very calm and respectful to the earth. Also in lines,27-29 she sounds really respectful when she says "as the old people say, rain clouds drift from the west , gift from the ocean". Lastly, she is very loving and caring of the sea (lines 6-7). Now in ''Ode to Enchanted Light''. The poem is very upbeat because she is praising. For Instance, in lines 6-9 she says "on every leaf, drifting down like clean white sand". She sounds happy about that while she is saying it. Also, in lines 3-5 she states about the light green latticework of branches, she is very calm about it. Lastly, she is respectful like the poet in ''Prayer to the Pacific''.
Figurative Language
The two short poems that I read also have a lot of figurative language. For example, in ''Prayer to the Pacific'' there is personification in lines 18,8,10. One example in those lines is in line 10 when she says where the ocean herself was born. This shows how respectful the poet is to the ocean and calm. Also, in line 5 there is a simile, " Big as the myth of origin". This is a really important part in the poem because its comparing the mysteries of the ocean to the mysteries of the beginning of the earth. Now in ''Ode to Enchanted light''. First there is alliteration in lines 10-12 that creates rhythm in that verse, " A cicada sends its sawing song high into the empty air". Also, there is a metaphor in lines 13-14 that ends the poem and ends it in a very mature but fun way. " The world is a glass overflowing with water". Lastly, there is a simile in lines 3-5 and 8-9. (8-9)" Drifting down like clean white sand".
Form and Structure
The form and structure in these poems are fairly similar. For instance, both of the poems each have uneven lines and I think the poets did that for a reason, like to create a certain mood or tone. Also, both poems really don't have a rhyme scheme besides lines 10-12 in ''Ode to Enchanted Light''when it says '' A cicada sends its sawing song high into the empty air''. I also believe that the poets did these forms and structures in the poem for a reason, like in ''Prayer to the Pacific'' the lines are made to look like waves on the outside and I think in ''Ode to Enchanted Light'' the poet just had it that way for the toe and mood. Lastly, in ''Prayer to the Pacific'' the pauses in the poem are there for a reason, to make it sound like a prayer!
Conclusion
As read in the 3 paragraphs above, the poets for ''Prayer to the Pacific" and '' Ode To Enchanted Light" have a distinct author style of word choice, structure, and figurative language and that affects the mood and the style of the poem. I believe that the message overall in both poems is to respect beautiful places and praise beautiful places.
