October
Happy October! This month brings cooler temps (hopefully), fun family events, and parent conferences! Our teachers our busy planning parent-teacher conferences to be held the week of Oct. 8th-12th. If you have not scheduled a time, please reach out to your child's teacher, you won't want to miss out on the great things your child has accomplished so far, the goals your child are working on, and the chance to ask your questions about homework, grades, etc. The kids are off on Monday, Oct. 8th so that we can conduct conferences during the day!
Last week, the stomach bug hit BES HARD! The building was treated this weekend with a micro spray and a deep clean was conducted as well. Please see the note below from Nurse Chism for reminders of when children may return to school after illness.
If you or anyone you know needs this translated into a different language, please scroll all the way to the bottom and you can select any language!
In partnership,
Mrs. Abrams
A Note from Nurse Chism...
Some helpful guidelines to know if your child is too sick for school:
Stomach upset: Keep child home if vomiting and/or diarrhea. Okay to return if vomiting and/or diarrhea subsides.
Fever: Keep child home if body temperature of 100 degrees or greater. Child must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
FLU: Keep child home & follow above guidelines
· If you are sick with flu-like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/consumer/prevention.htm
Lethargy: Keep your child home if they are sick or have been sick and are not able to participate in normal activities. Your child can return when he/she is adequately recovered from illness, able to eat & drink normally, and able to participate in normal activities.
Lice: If you discover that your child has lice, they may return to school after treatment has been provided. Please let your school nurse know so we can follow guidelines. https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/treatment.html
Strep Throat: Children who have strep throat should not go back to school until their fever has gone away and they have taken an antibiotic for at least 24 hours
Some other reasons: Undiagnosed rash, eyelids draining and/or red and crusty, uncovered open/draining sores.
Your child’s attendance in school, health, and safety are very important to us and following these guidelines will help your child return to school ready to learn and help from spreading illness to others. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions and/or concerns please let us know.

This will hopefully give us an idea of how many people to expect at the event and will allow you to skip the "pay at the door" line. Once forms are turned in, special event bracelets will be sent home with your child. These will allow you quick entrance to the glow party! Luigi's pizza will be available for $2 a slice. Drinks, candy, popcorn, face painting, glow sticks/sunglasses/rings, fidget spinners, and more will be available for purchase. All money raised will go right back into Brockett!!
**CAN YOU HELP?!** Sign up spots will soon be posted at www.brockettpto.org if you are interested in working a booth at the glow party. If you do not wish to work the event there are other ways you can help! The following is a link to a Brockett PTO Amazon wish list. Items purchased from this list will be used to make this fundraiser extra FUN and anything left over will be given to the school to use as needed.

Principal's Book of the Month
I'm excited to roll out this new piece of our character education here at BES! At the beginning of each month I will present a different book with a character connection/theme. The purpose of this school wide "book study" is to give us a common language and thread we can use to model, discuss, witness, and celebrate the month's character trait.
We have purchased hardback books for EVERY classroom to add to the classroom library. There will also be one in the front office and library.
Below you will find the YouTube video of September's Book. I'm sharing with you, so that you may watch with your child and family and have discussions around the theme. September's theme was KINDNESS. We spent time talking about the importance of being kind in our life...even when it's hard. Here are some questions to help get your family conversation started:
* How were you kind today?
*Who is someone it is hard to be kind to? How do you overcome that, and still show kindness?
*How do you want others to be kind to you?
*Who was kind to you today?
*How does being kind make you feel? Others feel?
Here's a summary of our first book, Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson:
Chloe and her friends won't play with the new girl, Maya. Maya is different--she wears hand-me-downs and plays with old-fashioned toys. Every time Maya tries to join Chloe and her gang, they reject her. Eventually, Maya plays alone, and then stops coming to school altogether. When Chloe's teacher gives a lesson about how even small acts of kindness can change the world, Chloe is stung by the lost opportunity for friendship, and thinks about how much better it could have been if she'd shown a little kindness toward Maya.

Dismissal Choices and Transportation Changes
The school will follow the direction you provided about how your child gets home each day. If there is a change to this, you must notify the office in one of the following ways:
Send a written note with your child with details for how he or she will get home that day.
Email tmurphy@aubreyisd.net with details for how you child will be picked up prior to 2:00 p.m.
Changes cannot be made by text messages or calls to teachers. Teachers are working with your children during the school day and we can’t ensure that information will get to the office.
We have several choices for Parents for dismissal:
1. Bus Rider- see Bus Information below
2. Car Rider- located on the north side of the building. For safety and quicker process, please post your sign on the rear-view mirror with your child's name and grade.
3. Walk-Up- located on the south side of the building. Parents may park at Summit Church and walk-up to the gate to retrieve the child from a staff member.
4. Walkers- For students who live in the neighborhood behind BES, staff members will walk students to the end of the school property line and release students to walk home.
5. AlphaBest- After school care, located at BES. https://www.alphabest.org/aubrey/
