First Grade Flyers
Learning and growing each day!
Math Workshop
The past few weeks students have been working on understanding addition facts to 20. We worked with a program called Fosnot to understand addition facts. Students used a double decker bus example to see all the combinations of numbers there could be with 10 passengers on the top and 10 passengers on the bottom. We started a new unit on place value this week. Students will understand what a "digit" is and work to comprehend what tens and ones are. Students have also been working to solve word problems. We are double checking our answers by using a number line.
Reader's Workshop
Students have reached 10 minutes of independent "Read to Self" minutes. Our end of the year goal is 30 minutes. Each day we work to build stamina in order to reach our goal. We have also been learning about the lesson or message in text we read together and on our own. Students are learning to identify the character traits, problem and solution in texts read as a whole and by ourselves. The lessons we focus on in Language Workshop mirrors the skills we work on in reading every day. Students are off to a great start!

Conferences
We are meeting with families Thursday this week and Tuesday the following week. We look forward to talking with each of you about your son or daughter's progress in first grade so far this year. Our school is working to stay on time for all our schedules meetings. When you hear the bell we will wrap things up so we can start our next conferences. Thank you for your time. We appreciate getting to know you more and sharing all the amazing things our students are learning!
Planetarium
Students had a fun trip to the Planetarium. They represented Rose Glen well and continued their study on space this week. We will wrap up our unit this week. Thanks to those parents who were able to meet us there.
Fall Party
We will be having our Fall Party from 1:00-2:15 on Wednesday, October 31st. Students will be participating in games and crafts during they party. No food will be allowed during the party per school rules. Costumes can be brought to school to wear during the party but must be school appropriate and easy for the students to get on and off in the classroom. Thanks to those parents who volunteered to organize the parties. We appreciate your help! Looking forward to a fun event for the kids!
