Assessment Coming Up...- THURSDAY!!!
ISA March 7th for the Class of 2025
Students in grade 11 will be taking the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) Thursday, March 7, 2024 in the morning during periods 1 - 4. The assessment, which is in compliance with federal testing requirements, will be administered in an online format and is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for Science incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which were adopted in 2014.
Students will receive testing room assignments on Friday, March 1, through their school email. For testing on Thursday, students should bring their CHARGED Chromebook and a calculator.
Are you looking for some extra help in math?
Did you know that Lakes has multiple options for help with math? Consider an option such as the Math Learning Center, which offers personalized assistance from a Lakes Math Teacher during 4th, 5th, and 6th periods. Our Knowledge Nest After School Tutoring program provides additional support beyond class hours from 3:30-4:20pm with qualified math educators. The National Honor Society's peer tutoring program offers a peer-oriented approach, with Lakes students mentoring peers in math. Lastly, students can check out a Big Ideas Math Textbook from the Lakes ILC for additional practice problems and examples or access the free version online. All of these tutoring options can enhance math skills and help provide a deeper understanding of mathematics. Don't hesitate to ask your math teacher or the Math Department Chair, Vikki Ecker, for assistance.

Mock Interviews - Thursday, March 14
Lakes Community High School is again hosting Mock Interviews for students in Personal Finance, Life Resource Management and Introduction to Business. Students have been exploring careers, resumes and the interview process. Mock Interviews provide the opportunity for them to make these concepts real.
Mock Interviews will take place on Thursday, March 14. We need YOUR help to make the project a success - can you help us provide this real-world life experience? This process allows our students to be both college and career-ready.
Please SIGN UP HERE for the individual period(s) you are available. There will be approximately 170 students interviewing over the day. The specific schedule for volunteers is as follows:
Classes
Period 1 8:00-8:50 -- ALL spots have been filled
Period 2 8:55-9:45 -- 6 volunteers still needed
Period 4 10:45-11:35 -- 7 volunteers still needed
Period 7 1:30-2:20 -- 6 volunteers still needed
Period 8 2:25-3:15 -- 2 volunteers still needed

We are eager to partner with the community to provide real connections for our students and local businesses.
Further information including student expectations, potential interview questions and a rubric “scoring guide” will be provided to confirmed volunteers before the Mock Interviews.

Career Ready Trade Fair Hosted by Stevenson High School
Stevenson High School has invited us to join their Career Ready Trade Fair on Thursday, March 7, 4 pm- 6 pm. This is a program mostly geared towards graduating seniors, but is also an outstanding opportunity for current sophomores and juniors to learn what sorts of non-college options are available after graduation.

FAFSA Update for the Class of 2024
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024- 2025 academic year is now open. Once the FAFSA is complete it will produce a Student Aid Index (SAI) (formerly Expected Family Contribution (EFC)). The SAI will appear as part of your FAFSA Submission Report (formerly known as Student Aid Report (SAR)).
At this point in time completion of the FAFSA is not producing the FAFSA Submission Report and colleges/universities cannot upload the information. It is estimated that this information will be available to them until “mid-March.” As a result you may find that institutions are pushing back their candidate reply dates from May 1 to May 15 or June 1.
As seniors are completing non-institutional scholarship applications some are requiring their SAI number. If the FAFSA submission report is not available, please feel free to use the following FAFSA Estimator. https://studentaid.gov/aid-estimator/ This tool will produce an estimated SAI that can be used for scholarship applications.
Please do not hesitate to contact Mr. Bargar at nathan.bargar@chsd117.org or 847-395-9388 with any questions that you may have.

Career Connect
