Cheer Season 2020-21
Returning Varsity Cheerleaders Kurtacee and Maddie (both juniors) were accompanied by upcoming freshman Hope and Byata for the 2020-21 OSSB Cheer season. Led by Coaches Traucht and Knight, the team met virtually for months before putting all learned skills together for two after school, in-person practices.
So what does it mean to be an OSSB Cheerleader? To this team, it meant comradery, devotion, support and a lot of love.
What defines a Cheerleader? The dictionary would say:
cheer·lead·er
/ˈCHirˌlēdər/
noun
1. a member of a team that performs organized cheering, chanting, and dancing in support of a sports team.
an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of someone or something.
Kurtacee, Maddie, Hope and Byata embodied the very definition of what it means to be a cheerleader not only through their final performance, but through their words, actions, and genuine care for one another. Together, this team spent hours meeting virtually to practice and to build confidence while providing support to one another. (Photo shows Coach Knight, with cheerleaders, Byata, Kurtacee and Maddie. Kurtacee is holding an iPad with Coach Traucht on the screen, not shown in photo is cheerleader, Hope.)
This year, unlike any other, required us to socially distance ourselves while also eliminating travel and in-person competition. The team met on January 20, 2021 and recorded a video showcasing their skills for submission. We are anxiously awaiting results.
OSSB Senior Adam, and Hunt for Hope
We recently interviewed OSSB Senior, Adam about being a member of Hunt for Hope. Hunt for Hope is a nonprofit youth organization that promotes educational and recreational opportunities through hunting. Adam said he has been a member for 4 years. “It’s a lot of fun, and I have made a lot of new friends,” said Adam.
“I have been on two big hunting trips so far. My Dad and I went deer hunting in Michigan on my first trip with the group. In the Fall before the pandemic, I went Elk hunting with my Dad and Grandpa in Wyoming. We got a 13-point Elk on that trip. In the evening we had a social with all the other hunters. I really enjoy being part of Hunt for Hope.” Photo shows Adam sitting on a 4-wheel vehicle. Behind him on the wall are his buck from Michigan, and his elk from Wyoming. ~Mr. Ron Heath
Got A Favorite Chocolate Dessert Recipe?!
Like so many things this school year, the 26th Annual Chocolate Fair has been "canceled." Each year, teachers and students collaborate and celebrate Mardi Gras with music, beads and by sampling homemade goodies at the annual event. This year, we would like everyone to send in their favorite Chocolate recipes (maybe the ones you were planning to make this year?!) Recipes will be compiled and shared with OSSB staff and families so you all can create some delicious chocolate treats at home.
Please send recipes to lyoung-dove@osdb.oh.gov by February 8th so I can get them together and shared with staff, students and families. Remember February 16, 2021, is also Mardi Gras so do not forget to celebrate and get your chocolate in while you can!
Thanks for your help keeping the Chocolate Fair tradition going in a new way this year; hopefully, next year we will be back in full swing!
