Week of Respect
RESPECT is our Character Theme of the Month for October and we are excited that the Haddon Heights Elementary School community will again be participating in the statewide “Week of Respect” this year between October 3rd through October 7th. Throughout the month the students will be engaging in various activities and lessons helping them to define respect, learning to respect themselves, showing respect to others and assisting them to take a stand to help others.
Spirit Days During the “Week of Respect”
Monday - “Highlight respect throughout our schools and community” - Neon Day.
Tuesday -“Hairs to being respectful!” - Crazy hair day
Wednesday- “Follow your dreams; don’t be someone’s bullying nightmare!” - Pajamas Day
Thursday - “Be a good sport, don’t be a bully” - Sports Clothing or Favorite Jersey
Friday- “Garnet & Gold is Crazy About Staying Respectful”- Wear our school colors and the crazier the outfit, socks, or shoes the better; because “Garnets are crazy about our community and proud to show respect!”
We find your commitment and values that you hold as a family to be of the utmost importance. The best way to teach respect is to show respect! When a child experiences respect, they know what it feels like and can begin to understand how important it is. What better way to kick off the “Week of Respect” than to discuss your family’s values and how respect is recognized in your own homes. We appreciate your support as we focus on how we respect ourselves, each other and the environment. We thank you for your continued support during our “Week of Respect” and throughout the school year.
Book Fair
- The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Haddon Heights, October 17-22. We are so excited to have all the newest books that your children want. This year we will also have some time for parents to shop. We can’t wait to get books in students’ hands! We do need volunteers to help. If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Kim Peek (kimglot@gmail or (856)465-7245) or Lauren Parker (lparker3574@gmail.com or (856) 534-4249.)
- Information went home last week regarding Schoolstore.net. This is an easy way to raise money for Glenview and individual classroom teachers. We currently have over 100 students participating! If you did not receive a welcome packet, please contact the office.
Sincerely,
Eric Rosen, Principal

Lesson of the Week!
Mrs. Agnew's 2nd Grade
Students in Mrs. Agnew and Miss Hoffman’s second grade class, launched a science unit by learning about what scientists do. They learned that scientists do experiments, make observations, and use evidence to support their ideas. We did our own experiment using Half and Half, food coloring, and a cotton ball soaked in glue. We observed how the colors changed, moved and swirled right after the cotton ball with soap was dropped into the milk and mixed in the food coloring. The colors kept changing for the next 30 minutes! We found evidence to support the changes to the food coloring were due to the high content of fat in the cream, mixing in with the soap. When mixed with 1% milk, there was very little change in the mixtures. It was an exciting first experiment!
