Aquin-Orangeville Co-op Proposal for Girl's Basketball Voted Down by NUIC
The Northwest Upstate Illini Conference (NUIC) has voted against the proposed cooperative agreement between Aquin Catholic School and Orangeville Community Unit School District for girl's basketball.
The proposal aimed to create a collaborative effort between the two schools, similar to what has been in force for the Aquin - Orangeville co-op for softball, baseball, boys basketball, and all junior high athletics, would have allowed students to participate in girl's basketball under a joint program. However, despite the efforts and enthusiasm of both schools, the 20 NUIC members did not reach the 75% approval requirement to approve the co-op.
"We are very disappointed by the outcome of the vote. Here at Aquin our top priority is creating the best opportunities for our students," said Todd Kramer, Athletic Director of Aquin Catholic School and Orangeville Schools. "We believed that this co-op would have been a great opportunity for our students to participate in these sports and build relationship with their peers from Orangeville. However, we will continue to explore our options to provide our students with enriching extra-curricular experiences." Superintendent Elizabeth Heitkamp add "We will continue to pursue any and all options to have our girls participate in basketball next season."
The decision not to approve the co-op will impact the athletic programs at both schools, but both Aquin Catholic School and Orangeville Community Unit School District remain committed to providing their students with quality athletic opportunities.
