PARENTING TIP OF THE WEEK!
DOGS ON CAMPUS
We all love our beautiful grounds and campus, including our family dogs! To ensure the safety of everyone, we ask that dogs not be on school grounds during school hours, during student arrival or dismissal, or during school activities or events. People with service dogs must check in at the office. Our one exception is when parents/guardians walk with their dogs to pick up their children. Parents/guardians with dogs may wait towards the back of our pick-up areas with their leashed dog within their control, but must prevent contact with students other than their own. As always, animal waste must always be picked up and disposed of properly. There are doggy waste bags on our playground fence if needed. Thank you for supporting the safety of our school community!
STAFFING UPDATES
We recently said good-bye to Instructional Assistant Amber Nurmi, who will be focusing on other pursuits while continuing to sub for us. We have so appreciated Amber's dedication and commitment to the students she serves. We are grateful for you!
Joining our 2/3 Instructional Assistant team will be Robin Shrout, and Caitlyn O'Mealy. Robin is an experienced classroom teacher and instructional assistant who has worked in private, public and charter school settings. She is enjoying getting to know the students! Caitlyn will join us next week. She has extensive experience in environmental education, and just completed a round of Outdoor School where she directed the work of volunteers in creating outdoor learning environments. Welcome Robin and Caitlyn!
OUTDOOR RECESS
Outdoor recess is almost always an option for students, even in the rain! Please remember to send your child to school with a raincoat/jacket and appropriate footwear everyday. Please keep in mind the importance of labeling your student's belongings.
PRESCHOOL PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT
NEXT WEEK IS COMPUTER SCIENCE EDUCATION WEEK: Hour of Code
Hour of Code activities are so valuable to open students' eyes to the possibilities that are out there in the world of Computer Science and Technology. And, that world is continuing to expand rapidly. Our students will live in a technology-rich environment of connectivity that could provide the framework to their very livelihood and enriched life.
SAFETY SPOTLIGHT: Nutrition Services
Safety is our school district’s top priority, and that includes the health of our students. Nutrition Services is a pivotal part of the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, ensuring students receive the proper fuel and nutrition to maximize their learning in the classroom.
The district offers lunch at all 16 WLWV schools as well as breakfast at most schools. Food is made from wholesome, whole grain, low fat and low sodium ingredients, and fruits and vegetables are offered daily. The Nutrition Services Department works hard to serve as much locally-grown food as possible, and student feedback is always encouraged to improve lunch and breakfast menus. Meal assistance is also available for eligible families. Visit the Oregon Department of Education’s website to apply.
Community members have also likely seen the recent romaine lettuce recall in the news. The Nutrition Services Department remains up-to-date and informed any time there is any type of food recall. In this case, there was no official recall from the district’s food distributor, but the district will not serve any romaine lettuce for the foreseeable future in an abundance of caution. Other nutritious vegetable and food options will be served in its place.
For more information about the Nutrition Services Department, visit the district website.
TICKETS ON SALE FOR EDUCATION FOUNDATION'S "NIGHT WITH THE PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS"
The West Linn-Wilsonville Education Foundation is excited to announce that the box office is now open for the 5th annual "Night with the Portland Trail Blazers" as they take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, January 18th at 7:30 pm.
