LYNX Scholars Build Connections Through Networking!
During LYNX experiences, FHS students network with professionals who provide information and advice about how to make informed career and college decisions. Pictured above and below:
- LYNX scholars met with representatives at Yakabod from the marketing, product and software development, and UX design teams to get a deeper understanding the role each play in a company.
- At West Frederick Veterinary Hospital, LYNX scholars learned all about the training, education, and skills needed for a career in Veterinary Medicine
- Service members stationed at Walter Reed Medical Hospital shared their experiences and expertise, encouraging students to consider all options for a career in the medical field.
- InPro Technologies and Phoenix Mecano provided an incredibly engaging tour of their facilities, where LYNX scholars learned about careers in mechanical engineering and the importance of teamwork.
- The Frederick County Workforce Services team discussed high-growth, high-demand industries and offered students valuable insights into emerging opportunities within the local economy.
- At FCC's Monroe Center, LYNX scholars created fruit skewers and met with Chef Mary and Chef Elise, as well as Hospitality Adjunct Danny Vasquez, with the HCTI program.
- LYNX Scholars met with members from Frederick County Fire & Rescue Services to learn about the various careers as a first responder. Students also enjoyed listening to advice and expertise from the firefighters of Independent Hose #1!
- Frederick High alumna and owner of Pretzel and Pizza Creations invited LYNX scholars into the downtown Frederick location to learn the importance of keen business knowledge, communication, and passion in any career endeavor.
- LYNX scholars visited Velvet Lounge in Downtown Frederick to learn about entrepreneurship, fashion design and merchandising, and the role that social media plays in building and growing a business.
- At The Affiliated Barbershop, FHS students learned about the personality, patience, and precision required to become a successful barber, business owner, and mentor from shop owner Chris “ColeKutz” Foreman!
- LYNX scholars worked with the team from First United Bank to learn about planning and financing their futures!
Learning Lab in the FHS Media Center!
When? Daily from 2:20-3:40 pm
Students must sign up by 1:15 pm on the day they plan to attend.
- Students must enter the media center by 2:30 pm.
- LYNX staff will assign seating.
- Students must work on class assignments or assessments until 3:40 pm.
The media center closes at the 3:40 pm bell.
All students report to the cafeteria for supper and bus service.
Students may sign out before 3:40 pm if they are car riders/walkers.
